In gerneral or for specific terms?
I've been pretty pleased. I think they're doing some major scrubbing of the index.

I've been noticing this for several months. A slow degrading pattern for high numbers of sites in competitive industries.
Also, lots of subdomain results that gained ranking in Google, like:
somename.siteofwidgets.com
and lots of these overthrowing main site domains.

I am noticing the same. Yahoo is giving better results for me. I try to just find random information and Google is giving crap recently. I honestly think they are relying too heavily on backlinks... Sad but true.

I don't use Google anymore. Yahoo and msn are far better.

I am definitely noticing the same thing. The new MSN search is way better, as far as my stuff goes anyway.

May very well be, goes for me too but fact is that way more searches are done by people who use Google. They don't switch that easy.

MSN certainly rocks, I hope they don't change the algo or anything anytime soon ... I've lost most of my precious rankings on google, but msn has made up for that

Google sucks donkey nuts
Googles SERP's suck. They are more geared towards edu and gov crap for me. I have ranked as high as #16 on Yahoo for the keyword HIV and also as high as #6 on MSN. But google.......hell no not even in the 1000 range. They are just keeping the big boys in front that buy their stocks. Let them keep their crap up they will notice the amount of unique searchers drop as yahoo and msn go up. The subjects already being talked about in SEO newsletters i get. Screw Google they're only good for adsense. If I want a relevant search i go to msn now.

Google has a business to run... that business is to sell ads next to search results. they do not need to cater to joe average webmaster.
when I talk about the original content stuff or adding commentary all I am saying is that is what will help you get links from other webmasters.
other webmasters can already link to the source sites if they like. if you add original thoughts and provide a great filter then it is SO MUCH EASIER to get links WITHOUT EVEN ASKING FOR THEM. and that will help you rank better in all search engines.
you can be pissed at Gooogle for not giving you high rankings for a new site in an amazingly established field OR you can work to keep improving your site. it is your own experiences and personal knowledge which can really add a ton of value to your site.
any person or robot can copy and paste, and in doing that there is nothing remarkable or linkworthy created.

I found that google deep sixed a ton of my sites in the last 2 weeks, today they started working back up.
When a SE gets finicky, you gotta know when to not panic, I am not happy but for now I am focusing on maximizing my ranks in Yahoo! & MSN, until google starts to settle down and I can begin researching some more.

Same for me. I wish I knew why. I suspect too many links, too quick. I actually took the nose dive soon after the Dec 17 update.
I've moved slightly higher since then. I remain patient, and hopeful of re-claiming my prior position.

I moved from 320 to 315 That is my kind of movement. It is also for a big keyword, that I have NO anchor text for... Hmmmm... Might be something to that.

I'm seeing a deep crawl going on. Up fairly high on most all my key words...I've been happy with googles results for quite some time. It's really hard work and very time consuming getting on the first page and staying there. Keep at it and then keep at it some more. It'll pay off.

I have disappeared way down the results also, happens occasionally for a few days - I'm pretty sure that I'll be back again soon...
