Yes, I had a couple of sites come from no-where.
Isn't it great!

So how close to the dot is the 8 months? One site of mine in the sandbox is hitting it's 8th month on the 10th of this month.

...the opposite experience ...we own and/or manage 25+ sites and 70% of them have suffered huge positioning losses (on Google) in the last 2 days.
...looks like the engineers at the Googleplex are overindulging in acid again.

One of my sites seems to be out. Last month it was placed around #190, today it is around #20-25. A big improvement
However, another site is still sandboxed and cannot be easily found for the company name

So where does this whole "sandbox" thing come from? It doesn't make much sence. When your site is first crawled does google tag some random time frame to it?

I have found that it usually comes from getting too many links with too similar anchor text in too short a period of time. Which is exactly what i did for this one site about 6 months ago.

I know of at least 6 sites run by different webmasters that broke out of the sandbox this weekend. There was definitely a shake-up, but it appears the filters have been released. For those of you who are ranking poorly, I believe that classic SEO efforts (link-building, anchor text, site architecture, etc.) will probably boost you back up.

Randfish, do you mean the sandbox filter has been released for all sites? And that if your currently not ranking it's because of lacking seo efforts?

The sanbox can be a fairy tale, a story to make you feel better if your rankings aren't what you would like them to be, who knows?
Don't blaim me, it's the sandbox.

Ferre,
I can say without hesitation and through very careful observation and study that the filter we call sandbox is real, does affect sites, and has been released for many (but by no means all) sites this past weekend. There's no other explanation for dozens of sites that were ranking at 500+ at Google, yet #1 at MSN, Teoma, Yahoo!, the allinanchors, etc. that on Saturday morning suddenly were #1 @ Google too.
I agree sandbox is a poor term and misrepresentation of it abounds, but discounting its existence is as bad as making the assumption that you know what it is...

I was realeased as well, on Feb 7. Bounced around from #56 to 136 for the 6 weeks leading up to it.
Settled in at #5 for my most difficult, #1 for second most difficult.
It was 8.5 months for me.
