Herb Kohl vows Google probe
Quote:
|
Media consolidation, net neutrality and Google's dominance in Internet search are among the issues the Senate's leading legislator on antitrust issues plans to scrutinize in the months ahead.Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), who heads the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights, listed those issues as priorities in an announcement Thursday outlining his top concerns for the 112th Congress.
|
Quote:
Kohl specifically called out Google as a potential cause for concern. The senator in December urged the Justice Department to conduct a "careful review" of the search giant's attempted acquisition of travel search software firm ITA.
"In recent years, the dominance over Internet search of the world’s largest search engine, Google, has increased and Google has increasingly sought to acquire e-commerce sites in myriad businesses," Kohl said in a news release.
"In this regard, we will closely examine allegations raised by e-commerce websites that compete with Google that they are being treated unfairly in search ranking, and in their ability to purchase search advertising,” Kohl continued. “We also will continue to closely examine the impact of further acquisitions in this sector."

YES google is EVIL. What people need to understand is that google have gone beyond just a simple business that is out to make money. In effect google are setting themselves up as a new world order, a type of big brother from george orwells 1984. They want to know and record every detail of your life. They want to control how you talk, think, what you read, eat, everything. The Farmer update is really about google setting up a type of google "newspeak". They are progressing out of just the internet into bricks and mortar. They want to control the energy, the food you eat, everything. They are infiltrating governments, they work in with the CIA. YES, google are EVIL.

So, they're evil because they "empower(ed) the little guy?"

How Google Destroyed the Value of Google Site Search
Here is a rant from seobook.com
Quote:
On-demand indexing was a great value added feature for Google site search, but now it carries more risks than ever. Why? Google decides how many documents make their primary index. And if too many of your documents are arbitrarily considered "low quality" then you get hit with a sitewide penalty. You did nothing but decide to trust Google & use Google products. In response Google goes out of its way to destroy your business. Awesome!
Keep in mind that Google was directly responsible for the creation of AdSense farms. And rather than addressing them directly, Google had to roll everything through an arbitrary algorithmic approach.
Code:
< meta name="googlebot" content="noindex" />
Part of the prescribed solution to the Panda Update is to noindex content that Google deems to be of low quality. But if you are telling GoogleBot to noindex some of your content, then if you are...

That was a interesting read.

Life is simpler for those in prisons or slaves too...someone else keeps a roof over their head and feeds them - but then you have to take what they impose on you. Is that REALLY what you want?
You are very naive. Google IS VERY EVIL.

Is Google Headed for a Microsoft-Size Antitrust Headache?
Will Google, as did AT&T and Microsoft, find itself in the antitrust hot seat?

So, is Google evil? I spent a portion of my free time this week-end reading Google's 2009 10-K and was not a bit surprised at their ambitious goals and who they view as their competitors:
The way I see it, Google views everyone as their competition. Google wants to control everything, from your OS, your browser, your email and chat clients, your online entertainment, news, online shopping, mobile apps, to your online medical records and social networking.
We face intense competition.
In short, Google wants to control the Internet.
And I find that to be very evil.

That, however, is not the issue.
There are those who worship Evil.

After receiving over 30,000 views in just two days, a viral video of a boycott Israel flash mob in Grand Central Station was taken down on April 1st by YouTube.
The flash mob started with a handful of people and within a minute saw dozens more singing and dancing to a parody of the tune of "Don't Stop Believin’" by Journey. "Don't stop boycottin'," they sang, "Think when you're shopping." They called out companies benefiting from Israeli occupation, and celebrated Roger Waters, Gil Scott Heron, and Elvis Costello, who are among the many artists to have heeded the Palestinian civil society call to boycott Israel until it complies with international law.
YouTube claims the video was taken down after receiving a claim of copyright infringement. Activists see it as an example of using selective copyright enforcement for political censorship and argue that a pattern is developing. In January, YouTube removed a Saint Louis Boycott Motorola Flash Mob video that parodied the Beyonce/Lady Gaga song "Telephone" as the video reached 35,000 views. As was the case with the Saint Louis flash mob video, there are tens of parody versions of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin’" currently posted on YouTube. Others have argued that parody is an activity protected from copyright claims. Activists have now posted a silent version of the video.

Google is very, very evil. For them, it is not really about money, its about controlling your entire life. They are very much like big brother in George Orwells book, 1984. Think how even here some worship google as big brother, how they chant....big brother google, big brother google, big brother google.
Google can do no wrong for them. For others, like us webmasters we live in fear of the google big brother because at any given moment he can destroy our lives by destroying our online business. The farmer update is a classic example, not how everyone who suffered was in a panic...oh, what can we do to appease big brother google....please big brother go and target someone else....on and on. If you did not suffer in the farmer update you blame it on the victims...it was their fault....google is only good.
But think about this, how many peoples lives were destroyed, google destroyed their online business and took away their income. How many lost their jobs or their business or their homes or may have even comitted suicide? We will never know. The only thing we do know is that google is evil.

Wow some good comments in this thread and also a bunch of not so good. I sure didn't expect to be posting a message that on the surface might seem to defend them against being evil but here it goes.
First of all: I am not taking the side that google is or is not evil.
But some people here are point out that google is evil for reasons that are certainly not evil. Google is suppose to try to out compete its competitors. Google is suppose to try to get the best products and stuff and if they bought such things that doesn't make them evil. Buying technology is not evil??? Trying to make your business #1 is not evil. Trying to remain #1 is not evil!!! Just stick to the things that are wrong.

Google is wholly unnecessary for that.
Any browser will do; and, no search engine is required.
