A reading of this thread will show that we are not talking about SEO, but about Google's business practices.

Does the fact that some benefit from the bad behavior of another make that other any the less bad?

That's a pretty tough cookie you brought up. It made me think a lot of stuff, even to the point that I'm thinking it's some sort of a parasitic type of relationship. Corruption in a government is bad for a lot of people. Others might think it's not because it makes them rich. It doesn't make it less bad, though.

Bingo.
Google is or is not evil depending on whether one rejects or accepts the argument that the ends justify the means.

But, Google's rules don't well comport with generally accepted behavior.

To be precise, both Yahoo's organic and paid listings are driven by Bing, with a small portion of listings derived from elsewhere inserted, such that Yahoo's SERPs are very similar, but not identical, to those of Bing.

I am going to reiterate my opinion.
GOOGLE IS EVIL. They are on practically on every web page
on the internet, tracking your every move, your every like.
They deliver you information custom made for you to
their benefit. The government may think they own you.
Google thinks you are a commodity to be sold.
They atract with shiny apps. Yet, like the indians ...
you are giving away your birthright for trinkets.

Don't know if they're evil
However I wish they would stop arbitrarily shifting the goalposts all the time.

Denials Over Google Street View
Quote:
|
The company on Tuesday released a trove of documents related to a federal investigation of its Street View mapping project. Although the project was intended to photograph the world’s streets, from 2007 to 2010 Google gathered unencrypted Internet data from wireless networks, including the content of private communications, as its specially equipped cars passed through neighborhoods.

Google's many and dramatic SERP algo. changes are not arbitrary, but rather made of necessity because Google cannot get it right!
They try something; it fails, so they try something else. Google is running in circles.

“Google Now” Knows More About You Than Your Family Does - Are You OK With That?
Quote:
The new Google Now feature unveiled this week at the Google I/O developers conference is designed to automatically present the information you need - even before you ask for it. The impressive results cover everything from helping you get to work to which sports teams you like - but they are possible only because Google knows so much about you. The vast extent of that knowledge is raising big red flags about privacy issues.
Google Now is tucked away inside the lastest version of Android, Google’s mobile operating system: Android 4.1, called “Jelly Bean,” was released this week.
Google Now Doesn’t Wait to Be Asked
Google Now automatically creates and presents a series of “cards” that try to organize your life by...

If you want to talk about Google with me that's ok, but think a second why FB get 600 millions members across the world incuding some that switched from Google.
Again ask yourself why their organic search is highjacked by Adwords, and now pay Shopping product comparaisons.
Just yesterday I was laughing when I watched my stats. It is just an example amoung others: Google referred someone with the keyword "Hawaiian river stone" on my article "Hawaiian Stone Therapy". So how according this Google can really know the level of quality the contents is about? LOL
Any professional on internet will tell you that since the 2 years Google created the worse algorithms ever. They can call that LSI, AI or whatever, they failed the users in many ways.

I'm not disagreeing with you here, realistically... When we get into an argument over something or need to look something up the expression is "Google it". Have you ever thought "How many onces are in a pound" and turned to Facebook?
Whether Google has the best algorithm or the worst algo. They are the Coca-Cola of Soda and Pepsi does not exist yet. Facebook is Beer (used for social) not Soda.
Coca-Cola is not healthy by any means... However, people drink it anyways

Hi, Just readed news today and saw Google Q2 Earnings are record high. They acquired Motorola Mobility and suppose, next quarter revenues goes more up, as well. Big cat getting bigger.
By the way, the last survey says that general visitiors to Google search, choose more paid top listings than organic search listings. The ratio is 2:1.
So, it seems that organic search is getting less valuable. There could be one day and we wake up and find out, that even positions on the first organic positions are not enough?!
