Moved from .com to .co.uk

Hey,

I've recently made the decision to move my developerfusion.com site to developerfusion.co.uk (using a 301 redirect), so that we actually get listed in the Google UK and MSN UK search results (we're hosted in the US). Google has noticed that pages have moved to the new address - but obviously these re-indexed pages have moved right down the search results, because they have no page rank.

I'm assuming / hoping, that once Google recalculates the PR for my site, this will come back up again - I've noticed a significant drop off in hits from google in the last week. Am I just going to have to wait, or have I done something stupid?

Thanks!

~ James

I would have done it the other way around, direct the .co.uk domain to the already existing, and ranking .com domain, next thing I would do is some work to get links to the .co.uk domain for the keywords using anchor text and see how the .co.uk domain does in the serps for the uk.

That's how I would have done it but I'm not sure if it's the right way either.

What Ferre said makes sence even to a newbie like me. I would think you were right Ferre.

Unfortunately, because the .co.uk domain simply points to the .com domain, Google ignores the fact that it *came* from a .co.uk domain entirely... so you're back to the old problem of not being listed in any of the Google or MSN UK results....

vbweb you are correct to move over to .co.uk (it sounds better than .con too).

I have moved .co.uk's over to .com's and all page rank will be transferred over. I am not sure what a 301 is but if its the same thing as "Domain Forwarding" + "no framing" in your domain control panel then the PR should transfer almost instantly.

PR hasn't been transferred yet - but I'm assuming that it will be at the next PR re-calculation... is this what you've experienced?

PR is slow to move... especially slow at the moment.

fwiw - I would have setup a similar, but DIFFERENT site for the .co.uk - content can be the same, meta-content slightly different... result, both sites rank for similar searches, but markets on different sides of the pond...

Is 301 Redirect the same as “Domain Forwarding” (option without a frame) in your domain control panel?
