Can Entireweb Compete With Google?

Entireweb launched a new search engine on April 7th. Press releases indicate that the aim is to compete with the current market leaders. Although I certainly wish the company well, I think they have a long road ahead of them if their current search results are any indication of what we can expect for relevant results to our search queries.

As an example, I did a test search for San Antonio Pizza on Google and found a full page of specific results leading me to places where I could find pizza in San Antonio.

HOWEVER, the same search on Entireweb led to to some pretty funky results, such as the #3 result which San Antonio Newspapers and #4 result of San Antonio Tickets. This is to say nothing of the results which followed of numerous listings for Metromix Des Moines, Chicago, Delaware, New York, Greenville, Minneapolis, Nashville and so on.

Heck Entireweb, I just wanted to order a dang pizza here in San Antonio.

I am not saying that there isn't room for another search engine, but until one comes out with truly relevant results, Google is still gonna be king.

Just my 2 cents . . .

Hi ... obviously, you're right about EntireWeb, but after less than 2 days live, we must expect the results to need jigging. If more search engines went live, ways would derive to improve SERPs. More important, more search engine choices, less monopoly; less monopoly and the web is more defined by users, that is, consumers and a wide variety of companies. It's good that you brought the EntireWeb search engine to our attention. Thanks.

I did a few searches for client terms and found my sites in slightly better positions than Google for the MOST part. When we got to real estate, they had a lot of national sites there rather than the usual locals. My sense from comparing their results with Google's is that they rely less on IBLs and more on on-site elements.

I had a similar experience:

Your search for mercedesbenzofhonolulu.com/en/service did not match any web results
Your search for mercedesbenzofhonolulu.com/service did not match any web results
I do wish Entireweb the best of luck and hope that their new engine can successfully compete with the others. A little diversity would do all of us a lot of good.

Giving me San Antonio Concert Tickets as a result for a search for San Antonio Pizza doesn't sound much like on-site elements to me.

I have tested them in many keywords and compare the results with Google. I think Entireweb has done a great job on search engine perspective, but still a long road ahead for them. Here is a little cons I found for current Entireweb

1. Their first page is very nice but a little slow loading

2. Their search results page is also nice but it has a lot of resource usage to display the results. This could be a trouble for user with a bit slow PC or old one with 1 GB of ram. Thumbshot might be the cause of this.

3. In my opinion, Twitter on the right side is useless but Wiki is an awesome idea of implementation.

4. What is a "Real Time" seach does really? I do not understand how it works.

If compare Entireweb to Bing. Their result is almost as good as bing, some keyword Entireweb can deliver better results compared to Bing.

If comapre Entireweb to Yahoo. Enireweb is a winner without a doubt.

Really weird having 20 results on the page.

I tested a few of my search terms and nine times out of ten they we're pretty similar.

On a few search terms I was surprised to find I had all the first few results and on other occasions the results differ greatly and I am nowhere near as close to the top of page 1 as I am on Google/MSN/Bing.

Can't see myself using it though tbh.

It will be a long hard road to match google. I like their layout. I also see very similar results to google, I rank even better for some keywords! Its nice to see a new search engine, competition breeds creativity!

Have you noticed that you can see the text before the CSS loads?

Shouldn't even bring them into comparison.
I don't think any new search engine could beat Google today.

I don't think it is so much a matter of "beating" Google but rather being able to attract a percentage of the market share. In this case even a small percentage could result in a huge amount of money.

Well my first impressions are that it isn't too bad but it definitely is no Google. From my perspective it looks like the engine does not weight domain name nearly as heavy as Google does.

For example a site I run... [removed] is #1 in Google for the keywords "wise sites". In the EntireWeb engine it is not even listed on the first two pages.

It's like that for more than a dozen sites that my domain names rank very well for their keywords in Google but are nowhere to be found in EntireWeb. Even with sites that have been up for a long time and do very very well throughout Google.

DietFacts.com for example. Over 1,000,000 page views a month and #1 in Google results for 'diet facts' yet appears midway through the 2nd page of results in EntireWeb.

One thing that Google does well for my approach to the web is that it is relatively easy to get your domain name to the top for those keywords. Entireweb doesn't seem to give nearly the same weight.
