Optimizing for the new algo
A couple things that hit me about the new algo -
1. Don't use the same anchor text on all the inbound links. Mix it up. For example, if you are targeting "Internet Marketing", use:
Or
IMR
Or
BlueBerry Pancakes
Or
Some other stupid link text which doesn't contain your keywords
2. Multiple links from same site/same IP - AVOID THAT!
It appears Google is detecting manufactured links. The optimizers who survived the filter have one or two links per domain, from hundreds of domains. Off-topis, worthless link-exchange links are keeping these people in the top. One link per domain, and get hundreds or thousands of links.
3. Keywords in the page title.
4. Avoid an exact match of the keywords in the body copy. Don't put your keywords in H1 tags.

Ok, that's the current SEO. But, if you do this, you might as well say goodbye to your Inktomi rankings and AllTheWeb rankings and AV rankings.

I actually use that. Just to poke fun at Google's paranoia - check the footer of www.bali-handicrafts.com

I can not avoid multiple links from the same domain, they're already there and sending (good) traffic.
I am starting to dislike Google. Have been using AllTheWeb more often.

Same here. I'm not going to remove all the links to my site just to make google happy. The links send good traffic - so google can just go f themselves.

am I lost?
I only have one IP adress, and all of my 30 sites are using it, all of my sites links together to each other, they have almost diferent content.
Please, I know that I need inbound links to make this work, but I´m very kind of lost here, does search engines penealized you if I´m changing my links structure to often? like in one month 3 times?
http://www.hermosillo-hotels.com
I´ve been forced to use FLASH banners on sites that I have placed publicity of my sites, I was looking for VOTES, but POP UP killers and add killers push me to change my .GIF´s to .SWF am I going just to receive traffic and no VOTE at all for those flash banners?
I need a HINT to accomodate my links structure on my 30 sites.
Thank you...

They are all internal links. If you have tons of extrnal links with the same anchor from the same site, that is where I see a filter coming into play.

I was on page 1 with two domains for "computer repair" in Google. One for a local site, one for PC tech support.
Bye Bye.
I have since reviewed the sites currently in the positions mine once held and see that they have no meta description and no meta keywords. Only "computer repair" in the title and two instances of "computer repair" in the body.
I have since set up an internal page similar to my original index of a page 1 site, only I have removed the meta keywords and description.
We'll see what happens.

I am at a loss i was showing up on the first page on google for uk search on "rc cars" now i am no where to be seen.
Although i am still on the first page for "nitro rc cars" Any suggestions?
I am also wondering if google is picking on any ssl systems on our site? Is it worth us doing another site on the subject of rc cars without any connections with secure online payments?

I had the same probs.
Was listed on Google under a UK search for "Yankee Candles" number 1, then just disapeared and had a crap listing for the BBC website. Doh!
I am back but for different search terms.

After you make all the needed changes so that you site appears to Google not to be about what it is really about.
How long before we can tell if it worked. I made a lot of really stupid changes Google came back looked at the site and left it in the same place.

compromise
Thanks for the pointers on optimising for the new update.
I've changed my link achor text on the index page of my site to other things other key words and I'm intantly back in there..
Well sort of... 7th to 1'000'000'000 and now back to 62nd.
Google can piss off though if it thinks I'm removing my H1 tags.
I like being on other search engines too much.
Just out of intrest would alltheweb kill me if I removed my h1 tags?
Cheers

I've been tracking my rises and falls on all the datacenters. I changed the title of my page, and was able to see it rise a few notches as datacenters picked it up. Just to test that...I changed it back to the old title. The one data center that picked up that late change...dropped it a few spots again. The first change I made to the tittle...those datacenters that had picked it up...kept it up those notches.
Still no real idea of what they're looking for...but the title change did help me a bit in tracking SOMETHING.
