Google Offers Choice of Sites for [content] Ads

http://today.reuters.com/news/newsAr...GLE-ADS-DC.XML

I had completey written off placing content partner ads. This may be good news.

Also note they plan to offer CPM showings.

I hear you!

Google is slowly inching its way away from a KISS philosophy to one of grab-it-all at all costs.

Each time I visit Google I can't help but to think about how huge Altavista used to be . . .

I've just started using Googles PPC program and am becoming focused and concerned about 'click fraud'. Google, Yahoo, and the rest, really need to do something about this problem else their revenue generating model will go flat.

I don't think Yahoo is as vulnerable because they are more spread in their offerings than Google but we are talking millions of dollars here.

I just read this about one such case that Google is fighting:

--
Advertiser allegedly abuses search engines

By David A. Vise

Washington Post

. . .according to a lawsuit filed last year by Google, is that Auctions Expert began clicking on the ads itself, artificially inflating the number of clicks and driving up the bills sent to advertisers.

Yes they do have a system in place, DOS. I get credited each month.

It's not fool-proof though.

Just a simple thought here with out much pondering. Could this be another the rich get richer issue? Advertisers should have choice, but might they choose to only advertise on BIG sites, etc. those sites will continue to grow, the little guy get's left behind.
Then again, the little guy almost always seems to find a way to prevail. This may also lead to helping eliminate ads on auto-generated pages, etc.

Are advertisers really going to be able to choose exactly which sites their ads will run on? I don't see how this is possible.

Google has a feedback loop between the user, their search and the site they visit after a search. They can actually tell how much traffic certain sites are getting without looking at their logs. Especially if the surfer has the Google bar installed, but even if they don't apparently.

Maybe they would choose to limit display of ads to high traffic related sites according to their own stats.

In AdSense you are allowed to filter out advertisers by URL; maybe this is what Google has in mind? This alone would not solve much unless they allow you to see which keywords are connected to which sites.

If they did this then they would open themselves up to publishers making deals directly with advertisers and eliminating Google . . .or Google becomes more like other affiliate brokers like CJ, Linkshare . . .

Or maybe some sort of Google trust certificate or ranking . . .?
