Google and Pop-Unders?

Google has on many occasions stated their hatred for pop-up and pop-under advertising. They feel that it ruins the user experience.

I wonder how this affects SERPs? In my opinion it must get factored into the Google algorithm. In other words, if you take two sites, each roughly identical in terms of scope, content, BLs, on-page and off-page SEO, etc. I bet the site without pop advertising would fair better in the SERPs.

Any thoughts?

no it does not because how would Google know a site uses it? (it has not got the capacity to check scripts especially external JS files!). Google will however hand review submissions for "Google News" and will NOT allow these sites.

I hate pops.
