Google PR Blackout

Google PR Blackout. It has been noticed world over that there is a Page Rank black out.The Google toolbar has gone gray and not showing any page rank information.What is behind this? Is there an update going on or is the PR been removed forever.
It has been said for few months that the page rank has no importance but I think that the total removal of page rank will affect the linking process.How will the importance of site be judged now

The best explanation I have heard so far is this is a holiday weekend, and maybe they figured this would be the best time for a system upgrade.

If this is a permanant change, it will be interesting to see what happens in the text link broker business.

You can still infer the page rank of a site by the number of its backlinks though.
There is just no visual confirmation to really validate your hunch if the little green bar goes away.

I think they may be running a complete pagerank update. Remember, it takes many iterations to get true pagerank for all pages. I think in the past they just did incomplete calculations because of the immensity of the data set. I'm thinking they may have reached a point where they have enough hardware and processor power to recalculate the whole index.

Naa, something fishy is going on at the Google camp - Maybe a PR marketing stratagy in the making.. Wouldn't suprise me.

Yeah, I'll bet they invested bigtime in the pharmaceutical and alcohol industries just prior to this baby!

LOL, year I am sure they have included the PR servers in their network of thousands of servers to complete "big index" operations.

New rumors said Google also failed to send out bills, checks and replies to emails because their office pc's has been include in the network to do "big indexing" the next month
