Seriously, they are much quicker to update their index and include you into the SERPs. In Google it might take me months to penetrate the top 1000 because of their crazy filters, but Yahoo and MSN (and others) will include me and rank me in days/weeks. Even if it's position 200 it doesn't matter, as long as the ball is rolling.
On a side note, I feel directory submissions are a good way to drive traffic and links.

Then there was a domain I bought in late November and set up a few days later. It was indexed almost immediately. By mid-December I was already #1 for my search terms, and I'm still at #1.
Get other people to mention you on their site Works wonders. And not just a link, but get them to say something...

If you have a good website with good content and know a little about marketing and some basic SEO stuff, you shouldn't have a problem getting people to your site. Doing things like updating it and having feeds help too...it keeps the people coming back.
If you have a ****ty site, with poor SEO, don't update, and no marketing.... then Google isn't going to like you. I'm sick of people bitching that Google hasn't it in for them. Come on now... of the billions of websites out there, do you actually think they single you out and decide to give you a hard time? If so, I recommend a psychiatric evaluation.

Sorry i cant really see the problem here?
the site dosnt suck in my eyes and lots of others, its a fully SEO'd website and has no re-directing urls fully updated daily.
so maybe you could give me some real info on why you think the site may suck, then when you have done that you could maybe give me all your great great tips on off site SEO and on site SEO and when that is done with, maybe pass some good thoughts on how to get better more traffic to a website.
Then i will say if i new any of it or not, why not!!! try me as you seem to know a lot

Well, for one the designs suck...and the language is poor.
Everyone always thinks that their site is the best and should be #1...when that's usually not the case.

Well the first link in your sig has tons of run-on sentances. I don't like the intro on the madkad site. It doesn't sound right. Both designs are severely lacking. 1995 style is not good.

well its a good thing im in the middle of re making the madkad website as some people allready know here
and for the mkpitstop site that has only been up and running for less then 2 months so isnt fully finished with style wise and also im not really going for a graphic look on that site just more a simple look and it isnt doing that bad
To be onist love i would realy like real info something that i dont know something new i am not really into slaging competitions and being picky so im going to leave it there untill i get some real info coming in

Sorry, but bad writing just annoys me. It's just a thing I have. lol.
Here's something to try.... find some big site in your field of expertise (or whatever the subject of your sites are), and get them to link to you. You'll get loads of people coming in, and then Google starts to notice, and before you know it,lots of people are linking to you. Because big site linked to you, it gives you a sort of legitimacy, so people trust it and visit your site.
