Crap links dont affect in any way they might not count but they can not affect your website cos if they did we would all be getting crap links for our competiters

It looks like BS...
EDIT: Oh, it's your site... I had no idea. I didn't mean any offense.
But, honestly, it looks like a bunch of BS. I would click away in under 10 seconds. The internet is chock full of AMAZING DEALS!!! And 99% of them are BS scams. By now, all but the dummest rubes know it, too.
Who gives away advertising that's worth selling? It's that simple.

So what other problems does it cause? If there is none, then why do some people say don't use the directory submission sites... Sorry I just don't understand, I'm really confused, unless you guys are just saying "Don't waste time chasing links that don't add to your site"?

Most links are good links. I like links - even if they don't count for PageRank, people may still click on them.

Ok, so its more about not wasting time (time mangagement) or is it about not using 'black hat' tools? Sorry really new at this and I have always avoided the directory and bulk sumission sites as I feared in some way it would damage my sites status in Google. I would get stuck in the 'x-files' sandbox. I would like to try it out with my seo comp entry.

yes correct John if you have 100,000 links and some one clicks on 1000 of them a day then thats some nice traffic

Mate adding your link to any other website is not bad in any way it will not harm your website in anyway this includes rankings it can't, the reason why is this ie.
me = computer seller and i compete with
compettiter = pc world
so if placing links on other poo sites were bad i would go round placing links all the bad sites for pc world my compettiter.
So thats why this isnt bad in any way because other people can do it on any website
The only thing that would happen if that link was placed on a bad website is that the link would not count in any way but its still a link and like John says all links are good because if some one clicks on them you get traffic
Hope that helps

Hi, now it is clear - thanks. Thats what I thought - the web is about links and google can only upgrade a link But in the usual newbie way I was doing too much deep thinking on the wrong subject......
So really I should be spending my time finding sites with good pageranking and that will link to me in good contex?
I guess this goes back to RSS, I guess as someone can include your feed in thier site, you need to think about how the links will look in contex? That way if you do end up on a 'ggod' site your link has some contex? I have'nt look too deeply at RSS yet other than turn on the default publish options for a blog, but I guess it can be tweaked.

>>lots of hompage links suggests they serve only one purpose or you bought the links, either situation isn't good.<<<
Marketing I think you are wrong with this and give google too much credit.
I just love all this link stuff.
Get links but dont recipricate, make sure they are natural, how can this be cause in the real world people just dont link to you if it does not benefit them, Dont buy links, dont put links with a network dont do this dont so that....
If they dont want people to maipulate the results then get rid of links.
Just my opinion

I just did. had a meeting with a great vendor who is providing me with a terrific back link with no reciprocation required. Their not huge, but a PR5 with lots of offline advertising. I've got another site lined up who I think will do the same, although they are a PR4.
doesn't happen often though, but I'm excited about these new opportunities.
