Newbie question

My website is not coming up in google search for any of my keywords. However, if I put my actual website in and do a search, it does pull it up. What does that mean? How come my site comes up, but does not rank for my keywords? Does that mean I am not banned, but am in a so-called sandbox? If so, is there any way to dig myself out?

I am very new to seo and since I am not a webmaster, I have lots of question. Hopefully, you guys can help me out some.

I registered the domain 10/03 and launched the site 1/04.

To me it looks like you dont have enough backlinks my friend. For a website that old you should be close to 1000 backlinks. Msn shows you with 37 while the #1 guy on google for photo hosting is 13,783. need i say more?

i would also say frames is a really bad idea and remember when you do links on other sites like your sig place the main keywords in the text of the link

Thanks for the input. I guess I have my work cut out for me. To be honest, I launched the site in 2004, but really have not done that much with it until the last 6 months or so as far as generating backlinks. Ranking high in the extremely popular 'photo hosting' search would be very difficult so I am trying to concentrate on high rankings for less popular classified search terms.

As far as the frames go, I have heard that they are not search engine friendly. That is how the developer who created our site set it up. I was totally inexperienced (still am, I suppose) and didn't realize that creating the site this way was not a good idea. I plan to have the site re-designed at some point removing the frames.

I will just keep pushing forward.

Just a suggestion: <title> should be shorter

these are main problems I see:

Frames: add difficulties to spiders
Noframes: not sure, but I as I have seen Google banning long noscripts, I would care about usege of noframes.
ONLY 77 LINKS. That's the worse, too few links. You must think about how getting more links.

You must learn more about how Google ranks. As this site give us up to 2 links, then use it. You must learn that Google rank sites by sorting them by the number with keyword in anchor text of a link you have.

You should choose up to keywords and then use the minumum words in title. google gives importancy to density in title tag

Hi Janet

I think the first hurdle you need to get past is the frame site. Google has issues indexing these type pages.

Look for css and html design which allow for fast loading pages, tableless build which pushes the content to the top of the page.

Once that is taken care of look for "basic seo advice" on how to optimize the coding of your webpages and building quality one way anchor links back to your site.

Dustin makes a point I also love to harp on......look at businesses in the real world all those overnight success were 5 to 10 years in the making.....

No such thing as overnight success and if there is the percentage factor would be .00000000001% you have better chance of dying from boredom

I will also suggest you in starting you should use the long phrases.

maximum two keywords should be in title and short themed description.
remove the frames
The content should be based on your targeted keyword but the ratio of the keywords should not be more then 8% of the total content.
Do one way link building.
add more content to the website.
use very light optimization. Don't try to use large number of the keywords.

These above idea would start driving traffic to your website...

Are you suggesting that I only include two keywords in these tags? Is what I have too much? Someone also mentioned that my title tag should be shorter.

Like this or is this too short?

description: Photo hosting for newspaper classified ads
keywords: photo hosting, classified ads

Just trying to get an idea of the changes I need to make here. Feel free to offer any suggestions you may have. thanks again everyone. You are all so helpful on this forum.
