Actually for any of you currently using Gmail here's how to set up your account (I copied this from a tutorial I wrote a month ago)
Gmail How To:
I've come to realize over the last few months that a lot of my web buddies still are not using Gmail to the fullest extent that they could! So I thought that I'd ask a few questions and give a few cool little tricks / tutorials
Email forwarding - Do any of you currently use this? as it stands right now I have 6 set up for my gmail account. Here's what I mean, for my High School forum I use
neo@neo-1.com which is sent to my gmail account. And I can send back as
neo@neo-1.com! For clients I use
neo@L3DG.com which also goes to the same gmail account... and can be sent back out as if I was using a site based email such as neomail / horde / or Squirel mail.
Set up - Very simple!
First go to your host / cpanel and go to your email forwarder section
Click add forwarder >
help@neo-1.com >>
neo1.l33t@gmail.com
(what that has done is just set up a simple forwarder to send any mail to
help@neo-1.com to my gmail account)
That's the first step... the second step is to set up your gmail account so that you can send out emails that say they are from your site.
Steps:
- click settings on your main page in Gmail
- click on the accounts tab
- Click on add another email address (put in anything@yoursite.com) should be the same as the forwarder you previously set up.
- wait for the conformation from Gmail , click the link and be taken to a success page
- That's it!
Now the really cool part about this is when you are composing an email (depending on who you're sending it to) you will have a drop down box giving you the option to send the email as xxxxx or yyyyyy or zzzzzz (xy&z= different user names) for example:
If you wanted to have a number of emails on your site so it looks like you have a large staff you can set up forwarders like this
support@site.com
help@site.com
sales@site.com
info@site.com
webmaster@site.com
etc... etc... etc...
Then just go back through the steps 1 time for each forwarder you've set up and you have a very professional
online setup that can be accessed from anywhere in the world you happen to be!
p.s. anyone that wants a free gmail account (currently 2.7Gigs of space & growing) just shoot me an email or a pm with your email addy and I'll send one out
