Help with Google Sponsored Links - top spot

I'm moderately new to the Google Adwords program - essentially putting together our original keyword list and ads - and leaving it alone to do whatever it's going to do.

I need to get into this and figure out how to get the #1 spot for some of our keywords. I realize that the #1 is achieved through plenty of $ and "quality", but how can I get our ad to be up there in the #1 spot?

In addition, how can I get our ad to appear above the organic results in the sponsored ads? Is there a way to monitor where other adwords buyers are and maintain that top spot and how do I get the ads to appear above the organic results to start with?

It's been my observation, that Adwords ads sometimes appear above the organic results and sometimes they appear off to the right. I don't know that there's anything you can do about that. Please, someone tell me if I'm wrong.

As for getting the top spot in sponsored results, bid the highest. I think that'll do it.

If you want the top spot in organic results, then read everything on this site and make it happen. Or, I'm sure there are plenty of SEO's around here (me included) who would be happy to take your money.

Good luck.
