Internal PR Higher Than Home Page PR

Hi Guys,

With the google tool bar Page Rank update through now i have been looking through my site and noticed that all my internal pages are ranked at 4 and my home page at 3. Is this normal?

Your PR is calculated for each page not for the site as a whole. I have a site where the internal pages are PR3-4 while the home page is still PR1. That's because people are linking to the internal pages so they have more back links.

I have seen this before. Are your internal hompage lnks pointing to "index.htm" or the likes?

I can show you a good example of what I am talking about from this website.

Internal Links are pointing to "Webmaster Forum"
http://www.v7n.com/forums/index.php (PR4) and the forum is actually on http://www.v7n.com/forums/ (PR5)

The internal links should be fixed IMHO.

could it also be traffic related as i have no links pointing internally at the moment but will be doing that soon? The internal pages have been optimised as landing pages for specific keywords.

I doubt Google bases their Page Ranks on the traffic coming to your site....read more about SEO:

Links + Content = Higher PR

If the landing pages don't link back to the home page, that's part of the reason.

I have a PR6 subpages with PR 5 homepage, and 99% of my backlinks are to the subpage. But, I link to the homepage from every subpage.

Stenno its nothing to be concerned about. It has no effect on a sites level of traffic. I have one site that went from 50 google serps visitors per day to 1000 google serps visitors per day since the last update and there are many internal pages with higher rankings than the home page.

Take Matt Cutts the google engineers site, his homepage is PR5:

His blog index page is PR 7

http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/

His July 2005 Archives are PR6 (higher than the homepage)

http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/2005/07/

Page Rank is determined for each specific page thats why its called Page Rank and not Site Rank.

This can be normal for lower than PR5 sites.
