sudden Drop in backlinks

After a week of the Google PR update my site has dropped its backlinks by a margin of 50. Though I had a increase in PR during the update I can't figure out the sudden drop in the backlinks.

Please suggest.

same here. I am also surprised to see a sudden drop in backlinks after Google's update. What should I do to regain those backlinks? Any idea?

Don't worry it won't affect your rankings or PR but its good that you keep a track of the links, try Yahoo Site Explorer for a better results of how many links you have.

I think your site go to google sandbox and may be its possible that you lost your quality backlinks from other sites.

Sandbox???...can you explain how did you come to that conclusion because the site is not showing some links in Google, its not that it has been de-inedexed or something.

few reasons for this,
- The tool you are using is buggy
- Your backlinks are devalued by Google
- This may be temporary issue
- Google webmaster tools never display all backlinks

You better use Yahoo! siteexplorer or Open siteexplorer.

i think sites might down permanently It happens in many cases some directories or social bookmarking list having same hosting and when it down all sites become down so i can say that could be one of the reason for sudden backlink drop

Google doesn't show all backlinks and that is very true but sometimes it removes some backlinks which it doesn't like or which have low content or come from low quality sites..
