Google continues to lose market share while Bing keeps gaining

Bing saw the biggest gains according to Hitwise's stats, which are based on searches conducted for the four weeks ending July 2, 2011 and are taken from Hitwise’s Search Engines Data Center:

Google: Fell to 67.55 percent (down from 67.95 percent).
Bing: Grew to 14.64 percent (up from 13.80 percent).
Yahoo: Fell to 13.28 percent (down from 13.63 percent).
Ask: Fell to 2.62 percent (down from 2.64 percent).
AOL: Fell to 1.33 percent (down from 1.38 percent)....http://searchenginewatch.com/article...mScore-Hitwise

We continue to see this trend for more then 12 months now. Bing are providing much better search results and slowly people are shifting to Bing.

Hmmm... well, Bing still has a long way to go just to match up with Google. Let's see what will happen in the next 6 months. IMO, I still think Google search is better than Bing, and it'll take a few years for Bing to match up with Google, by that time, Google would have already made updates and new features to boost and strengthen its power over all search engines.

I agree with your comment.

Google is still pulling in a huge profit though.

With Google+ now out, Google could gain back those shares. Only time will tell.

I doubt Bing will ever catch Google...Bing has been marketing on the boob tube for some time now...and Google is still kickin their butts.

I think we have to look at the long term trend here also,
Back in January....
Bing accounted for 13.1 percent of searches in January, up from 12 percent the previous month

Back in June 2009, Bing was up to 8.9 percent.
They are making ground, but very slowly.

Just 3 years ago Google was around 75% market share in the US.

Its a long way to go for Bing and others.

Question, if google continues to get bad press as they have been this year, and if people start getting concerned about privacy on the internet, could these two factors lead to a major fall for Google rather then people gaining preference for other search engines?

yes it is due to the partnership of bing and Chinese search engine.

both will do anything which is possible to fail Google.

In the early days of the internet it was all Yahoo, Alta Vista and Hotbot. Yahoo is a mere fraction of itself, alta vista and hotbot are almost zero percentage of the search market. I remember in social networking MySpace was all the rage and yet now its almost nothing...Facebook came from nowhere to gain over 700 million users. Things can change very fast on the internet...almost overnight. When Google goes down, I believe it will be a fast fall with no way back. The numbers of people that actually HATE Google is growing by the day. There are millions of people around the world just praying for the downfall of Google and thats a bad sign. When a business takes a path of building so much bad publicity, so many enemies and so many people that want to see it fail....in the end, like all despotic regimes it will collapse.

If Google+ becomes a success soon then it's possible that Google search can maintain its lead.

I can see more and more people moving to Bing or other search engines as Google search results are often rubbish since the Panda update.

Bing Pays You Money to Search

The real reason that the shift has occurred is that Bing pays you money to search.

Bing Pays You Money to Search

http://www.bing.com/rewards/signup/Signin

You get rewards points that pay you money to search on a daily basis.

I've received almost $50 in Bing Rewards points that I have used for Amazon Gift cards.

On a side note, why can't I top post on this site?

“Google still clearly leads Bing more than 2 to 1. But when you consider that that ratio was 3 to 1 last fall, the gap appears to be closing. Bing is growing by five or six percent each month, whereas Google is losing two to three percent"....

a study by chitika ad network illustrates that the Bing users are actually worth more to advertisers than Google users....

As of June 2011, the Bing organic market share in the US was 33-34% or in other owords 1 in 3 people are using Bing....http://www.prwire.com.au/pr/24007/bi...prising-trends
