Does the size of web pages and the speed matters in SEO?

I noticed that my site is slow. When I go to my homepage it will take some time to download. Size is not too large. My queries are:

1. There is a web page around a major factor in SEO?
2. If so, how big a factor?
3. What is the third page size ideal?
4. Is the download speed is an important factor in SEO?
5. If so, how big factor is the speed?
6. How fast is ideal?

If page size could not be optimized because it's a requirement for some of the content of your page, you can do alternatives to lessen the burden of loading both for SE bots and users.

Try realigning some of your heavy files so that users will see first some of the important stuff when it loads. Use some plain text or alt tags so that if images or files didn't successfully load, SE and users will have the idea what could the file be.

Loading speed of a page matters a lot... If you have a page with poor loading speed, this will deliver a poor user experience.

In fact in a video Matt Cutts said that Page loading is one of the important factors in 2011 SEO strategy.

Both will effect your rankings. You want a page that will give all of the information that you need, but not be spammy. Page load will count since Google uses page speed to base the user experience. The other thing that you need to consider is that it also reflects the host that you are using. If you are a strong company with a good website, odds are you are going to be using a large host that can provide great service. If you are a fly by night site that is there for a short time, you are going to find the cheapest hosting you can find which will not provide the same service.
