Does Google penalize for site in hosting subdomains?

Hi, I manage the site www.onlinewagerreview.com and I have it hosted as a subdomain of gregcapello.com (so the hosting url is onlinewagerreview.gregcapello.com). I am looking to increase the PR of www.onlinewagerreview.com and I am not concerned with gregcapllo.com's. Does google penalize for having typed of structure? If so...what are my options to correct this problem?

I had the same question a long time ago. As far as I know, no.

I have a subdomain: http://learn.preciousbedding.com

Also a top-level domain: http://www.preciousbedding.com

The subdomain currently has a better PageRank than the top-level domain does. (They've only been up for a 6 weeks)

I've make sure to put plenty of links back and fourth between the pages to try and share the PR with the rest of my site that my subdomain has acquired.

Thanks mreigle, I have been online for about 3 months now, and I am found on google, but my PR on the toolbar is still showing 0...So I am just curious of the types of things that my be hurting me. Thanks for the reply...

gregc, please do not drop links to your site in your posts (read the forum rules).

You are allowed to have two (2) links in your signature, use that option, you will find that in your user CP.

It's not a problem and no Google does not penalize it.

I wouldn't be concerned about the toolbar PR display, just continue working on promoting your site and its content. Lack of toolbar PR is not a problem for a site online for 3 months. And don't be surprised to see that many of your links aren't listed in Google's results - it's intentional.

IMO Google doesn't penalize it.

I think its helpful to get more SERP by using subdomains.

Thanks...I will not, I feel I am building a strong base...both on page and links back to me...

I am not sure if there is a good place to ask this, but should links back to me only be quality or should I try to get as many as possible? I see some of the higher ranked pages have tons of backlinks that have no relevance...is that the proper way to go about it?

I know exactly - NOT. Toolbar shows 6 to one of my sites(with subdomains). Yes, I want to add that PR isn't for a site. PR is different for every page.

I don't believe it penalizes for it. We've had fair success from doing some of our neworks this way.

Yep yep, i got more chance to get index by using subdomains for my blog and my website separetely on google :p. I think it doesnt penalize it

The google toolbar is much a topic of no discussion... it's pretty old grand pa... sort of thing... it shows the copy of the pr last updated and you have to wait for 3 more months to see your actual pr... I suggest you download an extension for FireFox that diaplays live page rank from http://livepr.raketforskning.com/ ... this ones a nice tool to display your live pr... well these take their results diractly from the google data centers so they tend to be quite accurate... but still there accuracy is under test...
