apologies if this is a silly question... how do you know when your site has been indexed?

NP, To get intexed quick or better just get as many links pointing to your website as posible, this idea that the guy has said isnt really a good idea and also I would say in my time on the internet it doesnt work and if it doesnt work then you have submitted your site to google and people and me say that it does slow things down after your website has been submitted to google on the indexing side.

well i actually havent submitted it to google, yahoo, or msn yet. All i've done is submitted it to a number of directories, and have it in my sig on this forum. i've read somewhere that the spiders may be able to pick it from sig links in forums. is that correct?

Absolutely, in fact quick indexing to Google and other Search Engines has more to do with linking then any secret method.

I routinely have my sites indexed within short periods and I have never submitted one. Build your inbound links and you will have no problems.

yes that is correct as long as the forum you are using with your sig hasnt placed the rel="nofollow" in the sig sections.

A very good way is to get you link added yo some high PR websites, people say the higher the PR the better for getting your site or page indexed faster

PR7 = 24 hours
PR6 = 48
PR5 = 72

but if this is fully true is what you test it with, I have tryed with links on PR4 and got them indexed within 24 hours but that could have been luck, and also getting some one to add a website to there PR7 website can not always be easy or even cheap

OK, Mad Kad...let's give this a try...

Started at 5:28 pm on Saturday. Using an extra domain that is currently only parked at godaddy....

Then I did what Sarangen suggested...

I will update as soon as it comes up indexed....will send screenshots as well when complete

Eric...

Still waiting. No index.

For the record, Mad Kad, I did in fact do this and it worked last week...(wierd that it worked then and not now...) Possible issues: Different DC's handling Add requests? This domain was parked where the other one had received some active content....
No clue...I DO know that inbound links from sites with authority work well...all the time...(grin)

Eric

Click on that link..
I'm testing this out as it was suggested by another forumite who had read this thread. If you view the source of the google page you will see there is no tracking on the link so that final step will make no difference.
Code:
If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link: www.top-40.net
For what it's worth I followed steps #1, #2 and even #3 at 11:09. The screenshot was taken at 11:27. I'll check back at 13:09 and see what has happened...

Participants in this discussion really need to seperate "indexing" from "ranking."

I thought this was one of the discussions that actually made the distinction. After all you're not going to get SERPs in hours.

FWIW we're coming up to 3 hours and Google is showing no visible signs of having visited that page (although I'm not logging it, relying totally on http://www.google.com/search?q=http%...www.top-40.net).

I would believe the data you just provided is total webmasters gossip.

Getting your link on even a PR 8 webiste will not help you get indexed faster. This is a big misunderstanding. Google sends freshbots (bots that retrieve new site and page updates) only to sites that are updated regularly, or fairly regularly.

If your PR 8 site has been tagged as "stale" by google, due to an excessively long period of inactivity, it is unlikely that the site it points to will get indexed faster. (although it is bound to get indexed within a week)

Of course, the whole point of the story is to get 'ranked' and not 'indexed'
