death in gmail
Someone told me about this yesterday...and I'm wondering if anyone else has heard of it. You know how you get relevant ads in your gmail? Well, someone told me that if you type in something like "death" or "died" anywhere in the email, you'll never get the ads b/c they don't have things show up for that because someone could be sending someone an email about smoeone dying and they don't want to offend anyone.
I sent an old email to myself, and inserted a new sentence "my doggie died", and got no ads showing up.
So, has anyone else tested this out? Any truth to it?

That's neat. I just tried it, and received no ads as well.

if you type "JohnScott is dying" it sends your ad to John instead of the person your emailing.

One of my accounts has ads when my other never had.
The ones that show in the spam folder are strange "Spam Veggie Pita Pockets" and seem to rotate to different strange Spam meals.

I agree. I do also like the M$ Windows Live Email Beta except for the top advert. It does have a better interface IMO but Gmail does have a more efficient layout.

IT also has a heck of a shorter name. Which would you rather say?:
I need to check my Microsoft Windows Live Email Beta account.
or
I need to check my gmail account.

Well, this is new.
Back in December, I had a friend send me an email that she'd had a death in the family, and, I KID YOU NOT, there were ads in my Gmail for coffins and funeral services.
I personally thought it was in bad taste, but as a PPC manager, it gave me a little chuckle. I couldn't believe that Google let that happen! So I'm sure someone told them about it.
They're lucky they didn't get any bad public relations out of it!

And if you go in the spam folder to delete your spam, you get spam-related ads.
I was doing that this morning when I noticed the small one-line Google ad above the mailbox advertising a Spam Chicken recipe.
