Think I'm banned
I started up a home business in January this year and got my domain. I knew it might take a little while for Google to index my site. It's been almost 3 months now and I'm still not indexed. I've read oooodles and oooodles of posts and based on what I've read about how Google responds to a search for my site, I'm banned. I've submitted my URL to google multiple times, and 1 night I finally saw my site listed. And then it was gone the next day. I've submitted a sitemap, which was approved. The only thing I could think of is my site is basically a copy of others since the host set it up. I've tried to individualize the site as much as I know how to--changed text, images, options. I do have some linkbacks, not many but some. My other personal websites I've had (hosted on my ISP webspace) have had no problem getting indexed with hardly any links. I've emailed Google help, got a canned response which said to reply if their answer didn't help (which of course it didn't, I've read those help pages a million times I think). I've yet to hear back from them. If anyone is willing to give me any suggestions that might help, please do so. If I'm doomed, just say so lol.
Oh, one more question--if I were to just get a new domain name, would that end up being banned too since it would be the same ip addresses?
Thanks!

Have you tried getting someone to give you a link on a site which is indexed in Google and regularly visited by Google. THis should get you indexed in Google pretty quickly.
Google doesn't ban for duplicate UNLESS it's a complete duplicate website, i.e same page addresses, same code, content, etc etc. Usually it just kicks one of the versions out of the search results.

If you were banned by Google your Page Rank bar would be grey and not white so no, you're not banned.

Google temporarily bans websites sometimes, but what is your URL? You can run a simple test to check it.

Yeah, you're banned.

Sorry, no information is available for the URL www.cakegreetings.com
Find web pages from the site www.cakegreetings.com
Find web pages that contain the term "www.cakegreetings.com"

That is banned. If it were not banned, the search would look like:
Quote:
Sorry, no information is available for the URL www.cakegreetings.com
* If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link: www.cakegreetin9gs.com
* Find web pages from the site www.cakegreetings.com
* Find web pages that contain the term "www.cakegreetings.com"

Don't think you need that robots.txt.

Ok, fair do's,
I have ran a check here and it seems they have nothing listed at all, not even any internal pages etc.
I thought when banned by Google, you would get the solid gray PR bar though

I haven't seen the solid grey for a while now. Maybe they discontinued that?

URL is in my sig...but here it is too: http://www.cakegreetings.com
I'm thinking the URL maybe was banned from a previous domain owner? Unless any of you see anything controversial (according to Google) on my website I can't understand any other reason why they would ban it.

Is it an affiliate website with basically the same content as the company site (or other affiliates) ?

No, it's not an affiliate site. It's basically a template the lady who hosts the site uses to set up the store for you.

The only reason I asked is because if you check Copyscape for a possible duplicate content issue (as is common with affiliate sites) it shows quite a few pages that are very similar.

The session ids may be causing some issues also. You might also want to use your actual domain url for your homepage link.

My webpages have never been included in the Google index
Google Information for Webmasters
http://www.google.com/webmasters/2.html
Your pages are dynamically generated. We're able to index dynamically generated pages. However, because our web crawler could overwhelm and crash sites that serve dynamic content, we limit the number of dynamic pages we index. In addition, our crawlers may suspect that a URL with many dynamic parameters might be the same page as another URL with different parameters. For that reason, we recommend using fewer parameters if possible. Typically, URLs with 1-2 parameters are more easily crawlable than those with many parameters. Also, you can help us find your dynamic URLs by submitting them to Google Sitemaps. To learn more, visit our FAQ at http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/docs/en/faq.html.

Your site may not be "banned" as in manually penalized or spanked (Yes, I know it sounds nasty, I'm just that kind of girl)
You purchased an expired domain name.
The whois shows the new or reset registration date of Jan. 11, 2006
Archive.org has pages listed from Oct. 2004
When the registration expired, the domain name was removed from the index, that is why you get
Sorry, no information is available for the URL www.cakegreetings.com when using the info: operator
info:www.cakegreetings.com
The url will not be included back into Google's index until it finds new links pointing to the page. Once a new links are found, the info: search will include the following:
* If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link: www.cakegreetings.com
Try to get a high PR link to get back in the index.
Who else would like to help out: I've posted a link to CakeGreetings.com on 2 pages that's usually visited by GoogleBot daily. C'mon, throw a link at it, help someone out, let's see if we can get the url re-indexed in 48hrs or less. There are a few links in this discussion that will also help.
Lori: These links are probably temporary as I am have questions regarding Google/expired domains. Start working on your link campaign.
G-10: It sucks that Google removed the grey bar recently - it was pretty helpful.
