Google and The IP Issue

So for years, V7 Inc was #1 for the search term "V7".

I recently moved that from different nameservers and different host (scottmediainc.com) to the same host and nameservers as v7n.

Voila, V7 Inc is no longer in the top ten for "v7".

Funny how clear that makes it.

What I find more interesting is the site that outranks v7n for v7. click here

I have looked at the page source and done a search for v7. Not one single occurance, so we can assume this site is not first for any onsite reasons.

I have checked some of the 458 sites google says link to the page that outranks you. click here they dont seems to have any occurances of v7 on the pages let alone ancor text.

the page http://www.zakon.org/robert/internet/timeline/ has a pagerank of 7/10 who said pr was dead.

So why is this site #1 for v7 ?

That shows me the exact same results page with the same 10 sites listed.

Yep, that was the point. The site(s) above this one have more links (according to G) that use V7 in the anchortext.

I highly doubt that. Unless a link with V7n as the ancor text dosent count. Then maybe.

I don't know what there is to doubt - the results are right there in front of you. Google thinks the two sites in front of this one have more links using the V7 term.

Edit: Check the links pointing to that site - a lot of them are like this:

Hobbes' Internet Timeline v7.0

Note the use of v7.

I would never rely 100% into allinanchor. Lately (about 9 months), I have seen allinanchor is not always quite accurate.

I'm not relying on anything. The question was posed "why does this site rank where it does". I offered the allinanchor results as one reason.

On a side note - how would gauge the accuracy of the allinanchor results? You said you've seen allinanchor results that are not accurate - care to share a few examples that demonstrate this?

GFC, the allinanchor command doesn't work.

V7 Inc has a lot more links with "v7" in the anchor text than this site. But when they are moved to the same host, one gets filtered out.

What do you mean by doesn't work? Has Google stated that allinanchor results are just a random hodge podge like their link command? I popped a couple terms in over the weekend and analyzed the sites and it seemd to be returning somewhat accurate results.
