Google Indexing for a newbie

Hey All,

Hope you guys can help this newbie out.

have managed to get my first website up and running (see sig).

The next stage is to get it indexed in the search engines.
I havent submitted the url to google, msn or yahoo yet as i'm not sure if this is the quickest way to get it indexed. I've read that its quicker to get indexed if links to your website are found on other sites? is this true?

So far, i'm just focusing on getting incoming links to the site, hence i've submitted my site to a few directories today (joeant, muzicmoz, dmoz, thisisyouryear). Cannot afford to submit to yahoo directory yet, will do this once the site is generating a decent income.

Any advice from experienced webmasters on what steps I should take to get my site indexed into google/yahoo/msn quickly ?

many thanks

Louie

The fastest way to get your site indexed is to get a link to your site on a high PR site (5+PR). The higher the PR the more often the sites get spidered and the faster your site will be indexed.

Thanks for responding.

Another thing i've read is that if you have a link to your sitemap from a highly ranked webpage, it will get your whole site indexed quicker? is this tru? or will a link to your homepage still get your whole site indexed?

That might work, I am not sure.
