Why do Google 1st page results keep changing?

Ive been doing some keyword research, and checking out the competition on the 1st page for the different keywords im thinking of SEOing for.

But Ive noticed that one minute they are one set of results, then just a couple of min later, they are different. The first 6 or 7 usually the same, but then the last few keep changing...? Why is this would you say? They seem to be sites that are old and no reason why they would keep moving about.

Does google do this usually?

Hmmm....I am not quite sure, but I think that those which are 6-7 you are talking about are simply Sticky. It means that people have paid for being on first places.

Well, I guess the results after 6,7..are changing because google is placing latest information first for its users. And SEM is also working better for getting keywords into first page.

It is not so fast that you noticed. It is not in mnts, at least tell hours. Google is like a big river and the site are like ripple. So changes and ups down its beauty. Try to see your own position.

Well thats the thing, I am trying to seem my own possition. One min it will totally disapear, then the next it will be back. I use a SERP checker which pulls the first 1000 results for a keyword, and Ive noticed that even though there are many sites on there showing as being on page 2 for example, one the actualy google results, these may be missing. Then next time I search they are there, and have replaced a page that was showing before. Then they will change back again.

Does google switch possitions to test out the CTRs etc maybe??

This not so shocking view.As regular sites with same keywords are updating within a seconds and due to indexing the result may go up and down. It's common.

I just checked, Google seems to be delivering everything.

Are you logged into your Google+ account while searching?

If you have recommended links on your Google+ page, Google will show them on the front page after position 6 or so. Google has been morphing your Google+ likes into the search results. Welcome to the social search era.

If so, try logging out or switching browsers to do a search.

You also my want to clear your browsers cache too.

I completely agree with you. It always occurs when you are logged in or you don't clear the history . And it might be happen because some changes have been done in Google.

Happens all the time when I'm searching. I often see things bounce as much as 1 to 2 places.

That is quite normal. Probably it's all in your browser. You can expect changes daily but not probably in a minute or less. You know, competition changes in every keyword so you might not want to expect the same results on daily searches.
