Gmail & Google Calendar Integration

When composing or replying to emails, Gmail users can now notify their friends - via email - of upcoming events. Having a party Friday night? Just send out an email to all of your friends and click on "Add Event Info", which is just below the subject line on the left-hand side. When your friends receive the email, they will be able to view your message as usual, however, they will also see the event notification and be given the option of letting you know whether or not they will be attending the event. Recipients are posed the question "Going?", and can choose "Yes", "No", or "Maybe". The event notification gives the information that you filled out, such as the name of the event, the location, and the time. The location is automatically linked to a map, if you provided a valid email address.

Sending an event via email to another person also automatically adds the event to your calendar.

Yep, that's what I thought. Oh, and another cool thing is if you click on "more details", you can view a list of who else is going, and the invitees can discuss in there as well.

Also, there's an option on there for you to allow your guests to invite other people to the event.

The only problem is that many of my friends don't use gmail yet.. or won't ever use it

I'm looking forward to that gmail hosted integration..

Well, I just did a little test. I invited myself to an event, and emailed it to my yahoo email account. This is what it looks like in Yahoo. You get the regular email sent, and then an invitation email like this. So it does work with non-gmail accounts.

Oh that's really great. Google did a good job here. That gonna be hard for Microsoft to compete with Live Mail..
