Are you checking the links in Webmaster Tools or using the advanced search operator or a third party tool?
Keep in mind that just because the links aren't listed it doesn't meant that Google isn't aware of them. It's been my experience that links from trusted sources tend to get scored quicker than the low value links.
Keep working on the site.

I would agree, that might be the possibility. Good quality links on good quality sites tend to give you quick link juice as you know that Google has got more strict on the quality and quality back links. Revise your link building strategy and you might find the possible problem.

Using the advanced search operator will only give you a sample of your backlinks. To get the full list of your backlinks, you have to check your Google Webmaster Tools account.
If you're not yet seeing much backlinks, you just have to continue building quality links (preferably from high-domain authority sites relevant to your niche) and wait for its results.

Yeah, this would be helpful for newbies, but I would use any other tool like backlinkwatch or ahrefs

Backlinkwatch gives enough info for analysis and it counts let's say 20-30% of the total number of backlinks. I miss Yahoo sitesearch instrument (

It may take some time to show you the backlinks to your site in the google. (If you have already added your website in the Google webmaster tools then you can keep track the backlinks to your website in the GWT itself). And don't wait for the results, just keep working on the off-page seo as usual.

I think its fair to say that each backlinking checker tool will show a differen't amount of backlinks from the last. And will take varying amounts of time to show up.
Webmaster tools usually displays the most.
Just because your backlinks aren't showing up, there's no need to panic, your SEO campaign should be judged on your movement in the SERPS.
Have you taken steps to get your backlinks indexed? ie building links to your links, turning your links into an RSS and pinging etc etc

If people would spend even half the time they spend worrying about what Google shows actually working on the quality of their sites, they would be shocked at their results.

Google considers quality when it produces your backlink status. Apart from this it will only a few backlinks for your site, while other search engine or tool will give you more detail. Wait a bit more and you will see the changes.

As already suggested by few, Signup your website for Google Webmaster Tools (GWT). You wil get far better results instead of Google Search.

How come? I use the webmaster tools and IMHO they are really helpful. The tool points out links, +1 figures, impressions, crawl errors, sitemaps submitted and even gives me html suggestions about my sites. Information like that is invaluable for me.

As the others said, Google may not have found all your back links yet, but eventually they will. What I do is I keep a spreadsheet of every single back link that I build. Eventually I go back in and figure out which back links have not yet been indexed by Google and work to get the already existing non-indexed back links to get indexed. But the bottom line is everything takes time, so forget about google and keep on workin!
