Crawl Errors: The Next Generation
I was just fixing my errors and snooping around the new feature's. Read the blog post first. It explains a lot.
Quote:
Crawl errors is one of the most popular features in Webmaster Tools, and today we’re rolling out some very significant enhancements that will make it even more useful.
We now detect and report many new types of errors. To help make sense of the new data, we’ve split the errors into two parts: site errors and URL errors.

Google Webmaster Tools Revamps Crawl Errors, But Is It For The Better?
Has anyone got a chance to play around with the new features/look in there webmaster tools account yet?
Here is one more story on this.
Quote:
Google has just revamped the crawl errors data available in webmaster tools. Crawl errors are issues Googlebot encountered while crawling your site, so useful stuff!
I originally started this article by writing that in most cases, these changes are for the better and in only a few (really maddening) cases, useful functionality has been removed. But now that I’ve gone through the changes, I unfortunately need to revise my summary. This update is mostly about removing super useful data, masked by a few user interface changes. (And I hate to write that, because webmaster tools is near and dear to my heart.)
So what’s changed?

Any thoughts on Vanessa Fox's story?

Yes, following the topic I opened here a while ago Google Webmaster tools had remembered over 100 errors ( ) on my site. Even though some were corrected during that time. Anyway, back to the point. Spent yesterday the whole evening checking the error status and correcting the ones that remained. First thoughts are great user friendly interface, simple to check url status, and mark as fixed option the remove the issue from the checklist. It also points out some of the misspelled backlinks to your site which can also hold some value I guess. Added 301 redirect for them as well. General conclusion, a big step forward.

Another interesting thing I noticed, probably early bugs with geotargeting. For my websites it sometimes suggests only crawl errors in different languages. In picture, I believe it's turkish. So far, I've seen german, french and norsk or swedish

I got them yesterday. TBH I first thought I was on a "not so legal" site, but then the languages seemed to cycle through a few everytime I refreshed the pages. lol
One thing I did notice, is that in my sitemap, where I never used to get errors, it now warns me when pages take too long to load. Which is great IMO. But it led to a hosting change.

Click on 1 of the errors then click on it again. Google will tell you what the crawler found wrong with that link. Then you fix this error.
If there is nothing to be fixed then mark the error as fixed.
Didn't take me no more then 10 minutes to figure this out. I'm down to 22 errors and well it'll be zero before i log off in a hour. lol

Well if you aren't a polyglot I guess you could either use google translate, or just keep refreshing till its in English. I gotta say though, I kinda like the new style. I am getting more info than I did previously. Especially when my sitemap showed the load times to be too high.

Don't get me wrong, I'm also very pleased with a new design of Webmaster tools. Sitemap info is highly useful too. I just find these little bugs interesting, one could even say refreshing. Pun intended.

What I don't like is all the errors I cannot control. Thousands of soft 404's and server errors do to bad links from other sites. If the link is external, it shouldn't show as an error because we can't fix it!

I had a lot of errors when i was checking the mobile links in crawl error's. Completly shocked me that Google was right for once.

All true, I resolved the issue by adding redirects for the most significant external error links. So far so good.

I did this at first, but couldn't keep up with the wacky query strings added to links, and bad HTML coding where links became ...comFree2%Web ETC...
