I feel that this change "big Google search change" is actually not coming anytime soon, despite the desire of Google wanting to. I believe for Google to semantically return result sets (from an understanding of human point of view) is still far away.
The reason I feel is simply that the content on majority of web that Google is aware of is based on "not semantics" though perhaps when html5 come to populate the open web, this may result in major changes as per the article shared.
I feel, Google is trying to find ways to adapt to ever changing technologies.
As I actually do not own iphone 4s (though want it :-) just because it has siri technology
Now we know that Google does use machine learning, yet, their fears of unknown allows them to also keep human element in place (with a good purpose I think) since, once again, the majority of open web isn't ready for semantic search (for what it is worth)
As for everthing (search) that stands as it is, why re invent the wheel, or replace it with alien technology
