How do i get on googles

I was just wondering how long it takes to get on to googles or any kind of search engine. My site is about 4 weeks old. I think it has been indexed.I have got links on my pages as well but when i do i check on googles it says that no one is linking to me. I really want to make a go of my website because my cousin has a well known website and is making heaps of money but he wont help me. And everyone keeps telling me to give up. But i dont want to. I would be greatfull for any help.

Just do a search for your domain name. That will show you if your main page has been indexed. Next I would look for directories that have your topic covered in them. Doda search for whatever and add url or submit site. Go to these places and get listed. Google will find you and start indexing you. If you have a rss feed on yoursite, there are places to submit it that will help. If your site has a blog, submit the blog to google. Add something to it exeryday for at least a month. After that add to it regularly. Google will start crawling your site. Be sure to list new pages in the blog so that google will find them. Also try and get some software to generate a sitemap and submit it to google. After you have done this you will have google crawling your site more than people visit it.

To list your site in google, just get more backlinks. Add your site in directories, prepare blog, update content regularly, this will help you in getting more backlinks. Also add sitemap in your site, sitemap results in improved spidering.

It has a lot to do with web design, search engine optimization and building external links. This may be overwhelming if you have no prior experience.

You may want to consult with a pro as to what the best fastest routes are to bring income through your web site. It is not going to be easy for a new site, but it is possible.

It may pay to pay your cousin to create a few links on his site pointing to yours if your sites are not completely unrelated. That will get your site indexed quickly.

There are one or two things you could do to the site that would make it more attractive to visitors, that would entice webmasters to link to you and, therefore, encourage Google to spider and index, and rank.

For example, there are some glaring spelling mistakes - how do you spell articles? Perhaps you could be a little less liberal with your adsense. And I'm not sure why you've put a "valid-html401" icon, when your validation fails to pass, with 42 errors.

The better your site is, the more likely it is to be linked to, the more Google will notice.

bornlazy as you've mentioned Google has indexed your site. It looks like it's just the home page at the moment, but be patient. 4 weeks isn't really a long time when it comes to them indexing the rest of the site.

As far as backlinks are concerned Google never shows all that they know about. They only show a small sample and they'll only update how many they'll show you from time to time. if they were reporting 0 the last time they updated then they'll continue to show 0 until the next time they update.

Yahoo is a better check of your backlinks and they're currently showing 35. Not a lot, but some. I think your site is in a competitive industry so it will probably take quite some time to show up for your most desired keywords, but there are certainly things you can do to get search traffic. Try targetting longer keyword phrases that get less searches, but are generally less competitive. Target enough of them and you can still get a good amount of traffic.

Definitely read through the forums here to learn as much as you can about search eninge optimization, but keep in mind that there is a lot of misinformation when it comes to seo everywhere you look. Try not to get caught up in instant results. The key really comes down to hard work and persistence.

Oh and tell your cousin he's not exactly being such a great cousin. I wouldn't expect him to do the work for you, but at the least he could offer a few helpful hints.
