Outbound Links and Google's Penguin

Has Google's April (too bad it wasn't done in March) of the Penguins changed how you permit or place outbound links on your blog or website?

Are you concerned with how Google may look at your blog or website as an exchange site for link-building?

I had about 30 reciprocal links which I have now made nofollow, but I have left other reference links alone (not that there are many anyway).

So that was an affirmative? Do you see other webmasters doing this too?

Yes it was. To be honest I haven't looked at what others are doing, many don't have reciprocal links anyway. To me it was just a sensible precaution.

Someone should write up an SEO-type article about this topic and trend. I'd imagine that MORE webmasters will be cautious about handing out Links on their websites

Here is one from Search Engine Watch posted yesterday: Google Penguin & Unnatural Links: How to Protect Your Site Moving Forward

The Penguin update shouldn't scare you off linking out. Linking out is good if you do it the right way:
Quote:
Providing Relevant Outbound Links is Good

Why is linking out good? Because as you write your article and make statements you should provide links to related and respected sources to backup your statements. This can be done by quoting a source and providing the link to the original article you quoted from (besides being good manners on the net).

Another way to provide relevant outgoing links is to provide a further reading or resources section at the end of your article.
Are You Linking Out? You Should Be

If you read Google's rel="nofollow" article the nofollow attribute is meant for certain things, one of which is don't trust the site. Why anyone would link out to a site they don't trust makes me wonder why they linked to them in the first place.

I heard recently that users must minimize and remove their low quality outbound links from website because Google Penguin can trace those low quality links and can consider them as SPAM.
