Google shows meta description

Hello!

I have made a website that Google shows with the meta description instead of a part of the page's text when looking for the keywords. It's the first of the list:

http://www.google.fr/search?q=artist...-8&hl=fr&meta=

Notice the term meta at the end of the link.

Thought you might find this interesting
Joanie

If there is no content on the home page Google will use the Meta description for the site description.

To the best of our knowledge they do not use the description for relevance. In fact they claim not to read any meta tags. But a site should always include a well written description exactly for situation such as yours.

Why don't you have some content on the home page?

There's no content on the homepage because the person I made this site for didn't want any content on the homepage, she only wanted a kind of welcome page with one of her work of art that's clickable to enter the site.

I usually advice the people for who I make websites to have content on every page but if they prefer not to then it's their site so I do what they want. "The client is king"

yep if you dont have text on your page it will show you meta desc. Some times if a page is just a list then google will use meta desc again.

eg: my portfolio: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...e+Search&meta=

The client can also be an "idiot king". The question is if your reputation is in part related to the web sites you design and code should you work for a client who insists on being their own consultant.

Splash pages, and that's what is, are long since passe. I think many designers would have walked away from this job rather than have their name and reputation associated with it.

No offense meant. Just my 2 cents worth.

I understand what you mean, but I like that the client has what she wants.

She is very happy with her website and yes I made it and I don't think it's so bad because it's not for a company, she is an artist and the look of her website is really important to her.

She is also very happy that she is at the top of search results in Google when looking for her search terms.

I at least try to talk them out of stuff like that. If the client won't budge, I do what they want. I don't walk away from a job. Money is money.
