Post-Penguin SEO Link Building: The Naked (URL) Truth

Quote:
If your rankings haven’t recovered from Google Penguin yet, you’re looking for answers. By now, you’ve cleaned up onsite keyword spam, you’ve stopped participating in blog networks, and you’ve read a ton of articles about how to recover from Penguin, but nothing is working. The fortunate reality is that Penguin is simply an algorithm; a mathematical calculation that factors in different data sets to result in a “score” which is used to rank every Website you see in the search results. The first step to beating this algorithm is to understand it.

Really like this article, and it is something (when discussing the directory industry) that I have been saying for a number of years.

Something like Brand Brand Keyword or Brand Brand Region is always going to be a far better anchor than Keyword Keyword Keyword. Simply having keywords in anchors is far too generic.

I can imagine affiliate marketers tearing their hair out since, the majority of their websites are basically "keyword-keyword-keyword.com" as the URL.

But let's be 100% honest about what they do. It's creating junk websites to make money via affiliate marketing. The content they produce is that wafer-thin stuff, that Panda was supposed to knock out. And the links they obtain are those 100% generic anchors which is what Penguin is looking to knock out.

So in their case, I'm not unhappy.

Real companies will always have a real site-name or brand. Therefore building links or obtaining links, or being linked-to or whatever you want to call it, should always obtain the name/brand before any keywords/regions are taken into account.

I believe it also takes into account the sources of the inbound links, not just the anchors. For instance, if all the links came from a self-service campaign, and not from people who voluntarily give out links. There is so much that Google still has to fix, and I hope that at the end of this, those who really deserve a better share get it.

Good article HTML dude.

The Penguin update is actually a pretty simple alogrithm when broken down and from what I can see, folk are making it sound more complicated than it is just so as to scare people into buying EVEN MORE links etc.

I have my own methods for working this and it really doesn't involve going nuts on the link front.

kinda crazy to back in and try to remove backlinks to your site just because they are have keyword anchor text. I think I would just focus on finding a good balance going forward. Dont overdue it with a certain format to compensate. you can still use keywords, just the same exact keywords In the same exact order.
