Higher PR from just directories?
Hey whats crackin
Am I able to get a higher PR just from submitting to directories? Does anyone have any ballpark of their progress of PR compared to the number of directories / links they have set up?
I am trying to quantify how many directories I should be submitting to and making links with other sites.
Thanks
John

Directory submission helps in getting high PR. But there are many other factors, which are also important in getting high PR. Updated content, use of proper keywords are helpful in getting more backlinks, which results in high PR. So it is important to consider all these factors.

hiya, dont know if it helps but i'm a SEO and we do alot of directory submissions, and it does help, the backlinks help google ranking and pag ranking, alittle time consuming but remember not to spam, the search engines can pick that up and demote your site!
good luck

Like the first two replies I can’t answer your question that well because I don’t rely on one method of promotion.
However one of my sites has 250 back links. Almost 70% are directories and 20% link exchanges. Site has a PR4 and internal Page a 3 and ranks on the first page for its regional and specialised listings. Much of the success in the SERPS is due to related and specialised directories (Health).

Also the quality of the links is important. Links from related sites are the best ones as so the text of the links would help. IMO.

You will never get high PR (over 6) from directories.
It doesn't matter in which ones do you submit, SBD, Yahoo, DMOZ, Business.com included.
It doesn't matter the number either. There are a maximum of 1500-2000 (really the maximum) stable directories out there, that won't disappear over night.
Reasons : very low PR pages where your link is, a high number of outbound links on that page.
BUT, directories are great to empower your keyword's anchor weight.

For getting higher than PR 6, do you have to start getting links from other websites and such?
Is even PR 6 possible from directories?

I think you'd have to get some very good directory listings, and lots of them, to get PR6 from directories alone. But yeah, I think it's possible.
