--------
The content is way more important than the PR. Every now and then I see websites with little or no PR outrank higher PR Websites.
Example:
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...ale+salt+lamps
Check out how
wholesalesaltlamps.com with a big fat PR0, no back links and no content comes up before
thesaltoftheearth.com =
Maybe I'm going to far with my geeky thoughts here but I think the only reason it comes up for " wholesale salt lamps " is because it simply has the words " See
www.SaltLampCreations.com for Wholesale Salt Lamps "
-I'd note
www.saltlampcreations.com is the sister site for
www.thesaltoftheearth.com
-------- Those results change everyday but I see them come back and forth so hopefully when you read this or check the google link you will see what Im talking about.
Back to the point.... no I don't think PR has much to do with ranking.
As far as monitoring your website, if you want to rank well I'd definately put a lot of attention to having good original textual content in there. A lot of it.
Then monitor to see what keywords people are finding you with. If you find your coming up #10 for wholesale salt lamps or whatever your target is.... find a way to rank better. Review your content and see if you have your keywords enough in the page without going over board. Then if you think the content is good to go, go get some related links to your industry.
Found a great free website tracking service here, seriously check it out. Free is very good price for this tool....
