My PR Rating?

Hi,

My PR Rating is a 4 if you visit http://www.yourbestdeals.net

But none of the other pages have any PR at all.

Is this normal? Is there something I can do to change this?

Thanks
Kris Kibak

It's normal, there is no such thing as a website anymore. Search engines now look at each PAGE to be a 'website'... so each page gets ranked accordinly.

Hope that helped.

There may be several reason for your problem. Can you answer a couple of questions?

1. How new is you site?
2. Have you run your pages through a Spider simulator to see if your internal links are visible to the Search Engines?
3. What outside pages link to you? Google isn't reporting any.

I had a real quick look at your source. I would dump the Meta name robot and googlebot tags right away. They may do more harm than good.

If you don't want to change the look and feel of the navigation -- BTW I had a problem figuring out how to get back to your home page -- then I would repeat all your links as text links accross them bottom of each page.

If Google comes to your home page they have to have a way to find the rest of the pages. If you nav. is in java or something they can not read they will not go any further.

One way around this is to have a text link on your home page that says site map.

Then put all your pages in text on your site map page

Ouch - looks like a lot of javascript there - you really need to avoid using links in javascript - unless you puprosefully want Google and co to avoid your links. You can use HTML/CSS to create a nav just like your current one - JS not required.

Yeah, there's quite a bit of javascript, but the category index on the bottom of the page should lead to everything else in other ways than java.

"1. How new is you site?
2. Have you run your pages through a Spider simulator to see if your internal links are visible to the Search Engines?
3. What outside pages link to you? Google isn't reporting any. "

1. Started about December 1.
2. No, I haven't; sounds good though. Could you give me a link?
3. I have alot of links leading to my site. To name just a few:

http://www.tnoutdoorsmen.com/knots.htm
http://www.bigfishtackle.com/superstore-general.htm
http://theoutdoorlodge.com/shop/hunting.html
http://www.kibak.com/

Thanks again for the replies,

Check this out guys; someone giving me advice said the lack of results was a bad sign:

Enter this in google: site:www.yourbestdeals.net www.yourbestdeals.net

When you search it shows 10 pages at first, but really there are only 3. For example, if you click page 3 you'll see there are only 4 results and no link to a 4th page.

Thanks,
Kris Kibak

The JS menu means that you won;t be distributing PR very well at all. Simply having a sitemap for the spiders rather than using the nav menu itself, basically says that you are not valuing the way in which the search engines will evaluate and rank your site. You don't need JS in your menu - that can be easily recreated using HTML and CSS. Or if you feel a need to use JS then at least consider using <noscript> tags to help the spiders index your links.

December 1st is pretty new. Without a lot of really high ranking backlinks Google may not have visited your page very often and may not have completely finished crawling and ranking it.

The spider simulator I use is at http://www.searchengineworld.com/cgi-bin/sim_spider.cgi

Remember that Google will only show backlinks from pages with a PR4 or greater in the "link:" search. They know about the rest but don't show them. So this may explain why they don't show up as backlinks.

BTW have you added a 'home' link to each page? I really think you need one to be user friendly.

The "yourbestdeals.net" link in header font at the top of the page always brings you back home.

I still don't get the links not showing up. I think all the links i posted here are between PR4 and PR7.

Thanks,
Kris Kibak

That's what I thought. But when I clicked on it yesterday it did not take me to the same page.

Ah I see the problem the home page is default.asp and it is being dynamically changed.

Nonetheless I don't think that link is very intuitive. I've been around the Internet for along time and it took me a few minutes to figure out how to get back to the home page. Just because you know how it works doesn't mean that your visitors are going to be able to figure it out.

I also noticed that www.yourbestdeals.net has a PR4. But www.yourbestdeals.net/default.asp has no PR at all. I think you would be better off with your link to the home page -- whatever you use -- going to www.yourbestdeals.net. Otherwise when you get PR on your inner pages you will be transfering it to default.asp rather than to www.yourbestdeals.net.
