avoiding the sandbox by targeting non competitive keywords and able to jump up in the ranks fast but chances are it wont bring much traffic.

Buy an older website in the same genre and develop it.

just don't believe in it. I don't. It's a bit of a self-fullfilling prophecy

I believe you have a greater chance of avoiding it if you buy an older, established domain name. I just deal with it and target the more specific searches for the first 9 months of my new sites exsistance.

Of course, this all begs the question, "What is the Google sandbox?", but I won't pull at that string.
The best way I've seen to avoid sandbox-like effects with a new site is high quality links. I've got a client that launched their site in conjunction with a heavy PR campaign. Starting from scratch, they received links from little sites like the Wall Street Journal.
I've never seen a new site jump up in the rankings for moderately competitive terms like this one did.
So, apparently, all you need is a good story and $15-20K/month for a killer PR firm. :-)

I have never experience the 'Sand Box'. Granted, I have not been in the game that long, but never have any of my sites(20-30) been pushed to the bottom just because of newness.
My latest site went straight to the top of the list within a week, for a fairly competitive keyphrase...at least I feel it is. 21,100,000 results for the keyphrase and my bogga is at the top. So, right now I like google and the traffic it serves.
I'm like a cat, I find the sandbox, poop in it and then cover it up like it never happened.

If you did that very often then the sandbox would end up being "a load of crap".

There is no sandbox in my opinion, but link age.
Search engines can assign weight on a certain link by looking at how long it has been in place. While a natural link tends to exist several years, a bought link very often exists just few weeks. Therefore, Google might attribute just a little or no value at all to a new link. A link that has been in place for several months has some value, and a link that has been in place for a year may have the most value.

Sand box... ah.. well this is the time where search engine gets to know more about you and your site... if you pass this test then you are up there on the top pretty soon...
Now, how to pass it... link naturally dont just go linking here and there and end up been driven in the so called sandbox...
try to be varied in the abchor you use... dont stick to one anchor text make it variable...
and get good quality links .. the links that have high pr and are "related" to your market....
Take care

Hi!
Well I just don“t know whether to belive it exists or not but according to some I am in it and have been there for 11 months and couple days.
I come up in results for some freak keywords (better to say whole sentances).
It seams I did couple things wrong starting with new domain (which actually existed couple years before I bought it but seams because WHOIS changed well owner and it starts all over again (aging I mean)).
It looks like it is best to just sit back, relax and wait. Info which you can read on forums and websites is like a jungle. The more you read the the more you scratch your head (at least I do ).
Bye, Katja

Those of the view the sandbox is a load of crap and isn't real, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on why you think it is. Is obtaining a first page ranking within 6 months for a competitive keyword search possible in Google's search engine today?
