A Panda Update Coming This Friday Or Monday
Matt also announced there will be a Panda algorithm update this coming Friday (March 16th) or Monday (March 18th). The last Panda update was version 24 on January 22nd, which is one of the longer spans of time between Panda refreshes we’ve seen in a long time.

Cutts said that it will be a large Penguin update in 2013.
I am glad to be out of the game now, good luck to the webmasters.

Matt replied in response - Reputation will matter more and more as we move forward. Over time, we (Google) will be caring more about identity and social. He’s also saying it would be great to see commenters on blogs who have authority to get credit for that also. Matt is recommending implementing authorship on your site.

Google's Panda Update Graduates To Rolling Update
Quote:
Last night at SMX West, Google's Matt Cutts announced that the Panda algorithm will be more of a rolling update, as opposed to what it has been as a manually pushed out update.

Just as I'd elsewhere earlier predicted would be the case.
Once the new data evaluation routines are incorporated into the indexing engine, and the bulk of the data currently indexed are reevaluated, there's no necessity for special Panda updates.
And, if it's not already the case, the same will happen with Penguin.

what exactly does implementing "authorship" on the blog actually mean?

With respect to Google, see SeachEngineLand: The Definitive Guide To Google Authorship Markup.

This whole authorship is nonsense. It's completely unfair to discredit great writers who wish to remain anonymous and portals that are maintained by multiple writers (you can't tag 10 authors on a single page!!). I don't like where Google is heading...

While it is incorrect to say that non-participating writers are discredited, there are many of us who share your concerns re. Google's attempts to coerce content providers into using G+.

On the Digg missing in Google results issue
Quote:
Matt_Cutts 12 hours ago
This has nothing to do with Reader. We were tackling a spammer and inadvertently took action on the root page of digg.com.
Here's the official statement from Google: "We're sorry about the inconvenience this morning to people trying to search for Digg. In the process of removing a spammy submitted link on Digg.com, we inadvertently applied the webspam action to the whole site. We're correcting this, and the fix should be deployed shortly."
From talking to the relevant engineer, I think digg.com should be fully back in our results within 15 minutes or so. After that, we'll be looking into what protections or process improvements would make this less likely to happen in the future.
Added: I believe Digg is fully back now.

Thanks for the article and the kick in the pants. Hard to keep so many plates in the air nowadays.
I've seen several of my pages that have always done well take a little bit of a hit. Time to get back in full gear!!

Google must be making some really interesting changes because keywords I've always done well for that were pretty major are now out of the top 100 - happened in the last 10 days.
We'll see how quickly I can get them recovered.
