The outcome - and my next question

Well just wanted to share with you guys.

Just a week back I was facing a problem wherein only my homepage was indexed in google.

well as advise i put up a simple sitemap with links to all my inner pages and "voila", all my pages are now indexed with google...

Now the next question would be,

Do we need to SEO all our inner pages for search engines or just the home page would do ?

Huh. I kind of doubt that the sitemap made the difference.

Links external links are better at getting your pages indexed.

I agree with John, focus on getting more backlinks and updating frequently. You'll get a lot more visits from teh google fairy by doing this and thus get deeper indexing.

There are a lot of issues you read about with sitemaps. Personally I have had very good results using them. If Google doesn’t like the content however nothing including sitemaps will help you get the pages cached.

The replies so far at not totally answering your question- You posted 2 issues, namely your inner pages were not indexed, you added a sitemap, now they are. Viola, it’s good, now on to the nest issue.

Do you need to seo your inner pages, not just your home page for the keywords you wish to rank highly for?

To me the answer is yes, but this is not trickery-If you mean you are targeting a keywords, and have specific page focusing on those keywords make sure it is in the page title, description, keywords, headers and also in the on page text.

I do not have any absolute answers on how google ranks, but the final issue is page relevancy to the topic being searched for, and if this is what we call seo in here, so be it.

Well seeing my competition and studying their SEO structure, i finally decided that i need to SEO all my pages...

Mine is a free site, so have a lot of target keywords... well i guess i need to start working on it
