There have been no SEO industry experts talking about this so called update and personally, I still believe it's a hoax like other's have stated.

Can you give us proof about any creditable SEO experts talking about this?

Please don't believe on all articles that you see. You must separate the right from wrong, the fact from fictions.

But What Will The Zebra Update Target?

Panda hit on-site elements. Penguin mainly focused on off-site issues. Zebra is going to town on social...

Too many retweets with keywords included around a link
Facebook updates with too many shares from people not in your industry
Any Google+ shares as this will look spammy (Google+ is a graveyard right, so any activity looks suspicious?!)
Owning a Pinterest page - brands only use these for SEO benefit no?

If you've been creating great content which may be being shared extensively by people on the web, some of which might not be bloggers in your niche, then start looking over your shoulder. The Big G doesn't want anyone messing with their rankings.

It's time the social web started cleaning itself up, The Zebra Update is coming...

I did not find credible information about this particular update that is the reason why i asked this question here thinking that maybe anyone here could tell me about it. As far as it being a hoax is concerned i would say that Google has a history of keeping things underground till the last minute. They also released the news that Penguin will now become a part of the Google Bots' main algorithm and any further updates wont be made public. So in light of these facts, the authenticity about the birth of Google Zebra is still hanging in balance. Don't you think?

It's clearly loosely rumoured and is only speculated as 'Zebra' because it's a black and white animal..like Panda and Penguin. It's annoying when people assume everything they read as true, without having any evidence to back up what they are saying. There's enough trustworthy SEO news websites that will release this news with proof without people wrongly speculating.

The irony is all i could find on the internet is "speculation" haha. So the evidence is neither substantial nor is it trustworthy.

That is what we are trying to confirm here. We have heard about it (speculations and rumors mainly) that it is going to be a new Algorithm from Google that is going to target Social media specifically. We are just looking for any hard evidence regarding the legitimacy of this news.

It is a rumor. Maybe part of other SEO to make it viral, for their promotion.

We can always refer to this link to know what kind of update on Google Algorithm is happening --> http://www.seomoz.org/google-algorithm-change#view-all

Google isn't out there to harm legit sites that provide useful information somehow like social networks.. so its not confirm a new technique.

No credible evidence and by that I call credible from Google not "SEO Experts". Would Google really call it that anyway? I mean come-on, Zebra Update, it doesn't even sound cool.

Stick with the P-theme?

Pirahna is probably more in-line with the damage they cause.

Could have the Peacock if it's elaborate, flashy and a bit show-off (kind've like social is)

Pitbull - thought to be vicious but maybe just a little misunderstood?

Porcupine because don't come near or your gonna get hurt. The next wave in defense!

Prawn... it's a bottom feeder

Praying Mantis - you better pray you don't get hit!

Truth be told I think the Zebra "rumour" probably got some weight because people are wondering when social will get reigned in. As a signal it's probably about a billion times spammier than links ever were. I have trouble going on Twitter because there's so much junk flying by you very rarely get a real story, article or something interesting to look at. I'm not talking about the chatter, thats part of the charm of the place, I mean once you start getting into the "promotional" side of things. Some of the SEOs were the absolute worst yesterday... So much self-promotion. Facebook does it better in my opinion, but maybe that is just the people I follow. Having a walled garden means Google doesn't have great access to that information though.
