Huh?

Do you mean something like "The #2 result normally gets 70% as many clicks as the #1 result?"

I think it depends too much on the specific titles, snippets, search term, etc, to have an accurate uniform CTR across varied SERPs.

The iProspect Search Engine User Behavior Study might be a decent place for you to start.

I've been using 70% rule of thumb for awhile now, but I can not recall who originated it. It states that, for every rank you fall in the SERPS, you only get 70% as much traffic as the SERP above it. It's very rough, but it works reasonably well for my limited needs.

Sometimes I wonder if the #2 position in the organic listings gets more clicks. Any thoughts on this ?

I know title, url and description is a huge factor for a persons click behavior but if both the #1 and #2 positions are killer - I sometimes think people are more likely to click on the #2 spot.

In this example I picked #1 and #3. Thanks, but Im still not sold. Are you thinking most everyone goes for the #1 spot ?

Beyond that, I think more novice browsers and G users are clicking into adwords.

No, I think it varies by SERP. I chose #3 in that example, and if #3 listing had been at #4, I would have chosen #4.

Yep gotcha.

Do you think rookie shoppers are clicking more on the paid listings like Overture and Adwords ?

There have been quite a few surveys on that, and it usually seems split down the middle.

I know I click on Adwords when shopping. Do you?

interesting you say that. i never click on adwords ever. i just figure they are not the best results, but rather who paid for the result.

i almost always go for the organic searches.

I can't find the info, but I think 10% of goole clicks are adwords and Yahoo is close to 20%. Anyone have info on this organic vs ppc ratios?

Without stats to back this up you can't really prove that. I think it is more simpler than you think number 1 gets more hits in my experiences.

There were stats that showed that the 2nd spot received 4 times less traffic than #1 (stats derived from the recently released AOL data).
Subsequent slots were receiving 1.5 times less traffic than the one above.
