Looks like Verisign is expecting consumer backlash against the brand. They've just sold the consumer registration unit of Network Solutions, but are keeping the actual controlling infrastructure of the .COM and .NET zones. Verisign no longer has direct consumer contact on registration matters. Which means that the only way to boycott Verisign registrar services is to boycott all domain registration completely.

Verisign has just gone up several notches in the evil count.

You know, I wouldn't be nearly as upset about this service if Verisign used search engine results from a company that does not utilize the pay for inclusion model. Where before it was an option that could be held off for a while, thanks to Google, it now becomes a requirement that is as strong or stronger than an entry in Google. Which will get shown more often, Sitefinder or Google?

There is a petition underway against Sitefinder at http://www.whois.sc/verisign-dns/
