How to avoid being found on any search engine

I have a number of special customers and I do not want this site to appear on Google or any other search engine results. Does anyone know what code to enter so that the site does not become indexed? My customers already know about the service and the site or will be sent there once they contract me.

of course there are plenty of options.
here are my suggestions

- using bad, really bad black hat SEO techniques [ this will pay off in long term run and you'll never see your customers' site in SERPS ]

- banning search engines using .htaccess (mod_rewrite or similar)

- is your site is dynamic banning is done by checking for user agent programatically.

Password protection is the only way IMO. Failing that idea then Robots.txt file as John suggested.
