If you're talking about the sport baseball in general, you are sadly mistaken my friend. Baseball is played all over the world and probably over half of the players in MLB are from places such as Japan, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.

Heres the answer to the original question:
Way back in 1884, when the New York Metropolitans ("Mets") of the American Association and the Providence Greys of the National League played a post-season series, it was called the World Championship Series. That name was used for a number of other post-season series between league champions. As early as 1887, the Spalding Baseball Guide called it the World Series, obviously just an abridgement of "World Championship Series."
Some people object to the phrase on the grounds that only U.S. (and now Canadian) teams are involved. But when it originated, baseball was entirely an American sport and it could justly be called the World Series--just as the fight between John L. Sullivan and "Gentleman Jim" Corbett in 1892 was referred to as a "World Championship" fight, even though both were Americans. There were simply no challengers from anywhere else in the world at that time.

I haven't been following it but, if I'm not mistaken, the Marlins came back from being 3 - 1 down to win the series, right? Some comeback!

Yup. If the Red Sox make it to the world series, it'll be the series of the 'Comeback Kids' since both teams just don't give up!

They should have. But Manager Grady Little made his worste decision of the year, keeping Pedro in even when it was obvious he was tired. He gets paid to remove pitchers .. sigh. Pedro pitched awesome yesterday, that's all I can say. Good series.
