The World Series
I once read why it is called the "World Series" and I'm curious to know if any of you American and Canadian people know why it's called the "World Series".

That's what I thought. Wasn't sure, though.
(I knew it was either baseball or football)

I'm amazed. Doesn't anyone have any idea why it's called the "World Series"?

lol...these guys/gal are just teasing....
it was originally called "Championship of the World" or "World's Championship Series" and then after numerous news paper battles and hoopla it was decided that it would be called World Series....it was just a way to say hey "the best of the world are playing and this is their series"....
at least if i remember correctly

I was expecting everyone to say "because it's the world championship", but it isn't. It can't be a world championship if representativies of only 2 leagues are allowed to play.
It was orginally either sponsored by or organised by a newspaper called The World - hence the World Series, named after the newspaper.
I've even heard the commentators refering to the winners as world champions, but they're not - unless that newspaper still exists.

Its just a figure of speach. North America, inc Canada. Anway, its like Gaelic. Only played in one part of the world, then a few other countries have little clubs and small groups who try to play it.

I can't believe the Cubbies lost. They had the win in sight too.
I just hope the Sox win tonight. I'm tired of the Yankees.
