#2 in Google in 2 Days
With the help of my fellow geeks and forum members a brand new site we launched for a petition to bring back Commander in Chief is already ranking #2 in Google! Granted I know this isn't a competitive KW or phrase, but it's still a good achievement as we're releasing a press release in the morning and trying to create a buzz around this term, so it's big for us.

Well i think just the fact that you got indexed and ranked both in two days is a good accomplishment.

It isn't a competitive keyword as the OP stated, but it is still cool.

I was simply happy that we were able to quickly get indexed and pop up there in the ratings with or above the likes of tv.com, tvguide.com and others, well weighted and much older sites. It was a huge benefit I think to be found for that 'non-competitive' term, because we are trying to create a buzz around the issue/term.
As such I wrote a press release and took a bit of a gamble of putting it in the queue for just a few days after the petition would be live and barely tested. Both paid off fairly well - getting found for some KW phrases like bring back commander in chief and others, that at least some are looking for or talking about and then putting out a PR about it.
The morning the release went out, I was contacted by Wireless Flash News who put us out on their wire service (they feed other media entities) as one of their 10 buzz articles for the following day - resulting in more media inquiries.

WFN serves hundreds of radio and TV affiliates in every major market across the United States and overseas. Our high-profile client roster includes almost every major TV talk show in America including "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The Late Show with David Letterman," "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and "Good Morning America." Major print media outlets include New York Daily News, Las Vegas Review-Journal, National Enquirer, National Examiner, and men's lifestyle magazines Men's Journal and Stuff. We also serve major media outlets around the globe from the BBC in London to The Nation in Bangkok.
|
On 18-Aug I sent out a few requests for support in a few forums I visit and from then through the 20th we gotten 64 signatures on the petition. Then we popped up in the index and top of the SERP just prior to the press release on the 21st - since these events, we've gone up to over 400 petition signatures.
With Geena Davis getting nominated for an Emmy, though she's not likely to win, makes it an even more fun gamble and project/experiment

Wow, great achievments! I never personally watched the show, but I have heard really good things about it. I was also happy to see that Kyle Sector landed a good role, I loved him in Homicide.
Best of luck with your project!

It flucuates quite a bit with different press pieces going and such, but since the 18th to forward, we've gotten an average of 200 uniques a day.

The cool thing, is that " commander in chief" is a more competitive term and we're now in the top 30 for it

Now your site in #1 for the keyword "Bring back commander in chief" and in #50 for the keyword "Commander in chief".
"Commander in chief"
Demand = 17045; Supply = 47,900,000
"Bring back Commander in Chief"
Demand = 0; Supply = 12,700,000
The site has not yet got any PR value neither it's having any back link. But for the said keyword it is ranking well.
Keyword presence data for "Commander in chief"
Title: 1 (Presence of terms): 7 (Total Words): 14.3% (Percentage)
Body: 8 (Presence of terms): 550 (Total Words): 1.5% (Percentage)
H1/H2/H3: 2 (Presence of terms): 30 (Total Words): 6.7% (Percentage)
Links: 2 (Presence of terms): 43 (Total Words): 4.7% (Percentage)
Keyword presence data for "bring back Commander in chief"
Title: 1 (Presence of terms): 7 (Total Words): 14.3% (Percentage)
Body: 0 (Presence of terms): 550 (Total Words): 0% (Percentage)
H1/H2/H3: 0 (Presence of terms): 30 (Total Words): 0% (Percentage)
Links: 0 (Presence of terms): 43 (Total Words): 0% (Percentage)
Above analysis shows that for both the keyword title tag presence in percentage is high than the other mentioned areas. And for the more competitive keyword they are maintaining optimized title tag, H1 tag, page content and anchor text. Relevancy factor, which helps them to bring less competitive keyword at top, which contains the more competitive keyword as a part of it.
It seems to me google love title tag and H1 tag relevancy within limit, and page content, which is highly relevant to the said keyword or search terms.

Everything I did is already basically outlined above - mainly backlinks and buzz, both of which were complimented with article and press release submissions.
Looks like some other jackass thinks it's a cool buzz term now too

I'm surprised they're not trying to run contextual ads ... they know they're not writing logical - they're running a link farm via an attempt to look like content - sad enough to be funny
