Smile Google can't be that clever?

It took me a year to get our B&B site to pr4 and a top spot in Google. Recently my wife had an accident so we are unable to take visitors. Not wishing to loose the hard work and high ranking I added a short note on the front page that we are not taking visitors at the moment.

Suddenly I find our best keyword has dropped to 150. I wonder why this has happened. Could it be my short message (which included the keyword) pushed us over some kind of keyword limit? Could it be that someone else who is interested in the same keyword has reported the site to Google because we are not actually doing B&B at the moment?

I'm guesing it's a coincedence too. Especially with Google. Don't think they are too interested in density at this time.

Hard to believe its just coincidence.

The change was made on 5th Aug. and first Google cache was on 19th. Other keywords don't seem to have been affected.

Its been wobbling since April according to that, i doubt it was the message but rather something else...

Did you change anything in April?

Yes - I did a complete style makeover, improved navigation and added a bit more information. Most of the content was the same and nothing was done for any SEO reasons - it was at the top anyway.

Perhaps its another case of being punished for making a site better - it happened to another site of mine and it has never recovered in Google despite being 1 in Yahoo and 2 in MSN ever since

OK - this keyword is more or less back after a week down so perhaps its just a wobble. I still suspect it was as a result of my change and not coincidence.
