How Many Pages to Track

Do you track all the pages of your site in Google Analytics or just the key ones?

Just updating our snippet to universal analytics and am reconsidering some we don't track to ensure we follow the complete visit but there are some debatable ones like pricelists or Flash/HTML5 showcase pages.

TIA

Paul

It really depends on the size and purpose of your site. For example, if your goal is to generate revenue through selling physical products, then you would want to build up a clear idea of the pages visited before finally making a sale.

But if your goal is to showcase your work, it might be useful to know which piece of work was visited the most often to help develop a strategy for future pieces.

Price lists may actually be one of the pages most important to track. If people are reading through your services and are interested enough to view your prices, you want to know if this is putting people off and the page has a high exit rate.

Without knowing the site, audience, and goals it's difficult to provide advice on what you should be tracking.

Thanks - good point on the price list pages.

We're a software company so our product pages to evaluation version download is the key metric but might be worth tracking how many people visit the price detail page first.
