Where are my backward links!?!

My site Contract Mobile Phones has 558 Yahoo links and just 21 Google! Why Google does not index them? Can I do something about that?

No there is nothing that you can do about this, google does not show all backlinks all the time, I usually use other tools to check all of my backlinks.

Well Google is different than other search engines it only shows you the links it thinks are quality, the only thing you can do about it is to build more quality links.

I had same problem. Now I understand that G only choose some of back links.
Better is to check back links on others SE that not take links from google like Yahoo and MSN.

In order to preserve rankings, Google only shows a select few backlinks.

That way, you couldn't simply look up your competitions backlinks, and do them 1 better to take over the spot...

Google shows only quality backlinks and google backlinks updated some times.

Even most back link tools will show only a portion of the backlinks for Google.

Google show quailty and good links. So if you want to check go to other engines or Bk tools.

I'm surprised mto see statement suggesting that Google only lists "best quality" backlinks. I'd take a closer look as you'll probably see it's a mix of the mediocre links as some of the higher profile links are never displayed.

I'm sure you'll agree from looking at your own backlinks that those displayed by Google are not your best quality links.

HUH? Nowhere on Google does it indicate that the link command displays only QUALITY backlinks. Google's wording is that they display a SAMPLING of your backlinks. http://www.google.com/support/webmas...s&topic=&type=

Matt Cutts also mentioned back in 2005 that although originally they only displayed a sampling of PR4 or above backlinks, they changed to also including lower PR pages, but still just a sampling.

P.S. This does not mean that they are not considering all links to a site when determining placement in the search results. They are simply not displaying all of the links.

I agree with Cricket. Backlinks are updated continously and the visible backlinks in Google just show a sample of the backlinks in the previous BL export; it is almost meaningless as it is only a sample number.

I have read places lately that claim that google's back link checker is flat out broken and isnt really working anymore. Use Yahoo to check for links, it works great!

Cricket is exactly right. The backlinks Google shows are just a sampling. It has nothing to do with quality. Some of the links they will show are probably worthless and many they don't show are probably hight quality. They don't want any of us to reverse engineer what they consider good links so they don't provide us with that info.

Better to just use Yahoo to check backlinks since it's probably a more accurate count. Backlink data from Google is essentially worthless, which is how they want it.

They usually update what they show to us around the same time (every three months or so), but they are updating things behind the scenes in real time.

Wow I was wondering how come I was getting all these backlinks yet nothing was showing up in google. I thought it was showing me the only backlinks that counted but now I'm glad I read this thread. Learn something new everyday.
